Hey guys
I have a question
My motor seems to spin out at times. I can be running down the lake at 5k. Rpm and all is good then for some reason the boat quits pulling and rpms go up. I replaced the bushing in the prop and it didn't help. Any ideas? Maybe lower unit?
That is classic symptom of a spun hub in the prop. Recheck it.
Rick, does yours have the flo torque hub with the plastic insert. If so it could be you don’t have the prop nut quite tight enough. Those things have to be torqued pretty tight to hold.

It does have the plastic insert. I will retorque it. Can I buy a new prop that doesnt have the insert?Quote:

If the hub is good, I'd say that the motor is either mounted too high or trimmed out too far. Allowing the prop to ventilate. I'm still trying to figure out if the comment about the thermostat was serious or if it was a blinker fluid kind of thing.
I didn't understand the thermostat question either but what is blinker fluid? Did not understand either comment.
LOL!!!.... Blinker fluid is a term used by folks that are either trying to mislead the listener or are talking about something they know nothing about. It's used to imply that if your vehicle blinker isn't working, it may be low on fluid. (Obviously not the case).Quote:

He told me voltage high on map sensor. I said ECM sends 5 volts, so how can it be high. Long storie short, termostat was clogged with sand. Motor overheat enought it cooked ECM. I purchased a ECM $650 I think. Took to lake. Guess what alarm I got. BOOM . solid. Overheat. BAMM. Pulled termostat and was full of sand.
If yours isn't giving no alarm. Than it's lower unit or prop.
mine does that suddenly revving but rarely. have 2011 Mercury 60 HP 4 stroke EFI. I let off for second and then go again and it's all good.

All y'all's answers are better than mine. I woulda just said run it at 4800rpm. As far as blinker fluid a 4 stroke don't have that. That's a 2 stroke thing.
