Just wondering about how many having success or thinking about getting one .
I use mine every trip out, learned a lot. It's taught me to go a lot slower .

I caught lots more fish before livescope. I find myself enthralled in the screen now and or the behaviors of other fish. In a nutshell, I spend more time looking at screens then I ever did actually fishing. It's cool technology and very rewarding and sure it's a game changer. At what cost though? I'm one with mixed issues on the subject. I will learn it and figure it all out I'm guessing, just guessing I hope I don't cross the threshold and equate catching with the enjoyment of just fishing for them.

I am on the fence, will have to if I want to continue to tournament fish but really don't like it. I have spent about 50hrs using it on a partner's boat and it is without a doubt the biggest development in crappie fishing ever. Literally nothing comes close to it. But in my opinion it takes most of the skill out of fishing and will eventually take a toll on our fisheries. I know people will take offense to that and say I am jealous, can't afford it, or don't understand it, blah, blah. But none of those are true in my case. Pre Livescope you really had to have some knowledge at times to find fish. With Livescope with the exception of a few situations where they can still hide a little, you just have to put it in the water and find them. You can call it what you want to and no doubt its fun, but it isn't really fishing. Not much different than calling hunting deer with a crossbow bowhunting.
But even if I decide to get one for tournament fishing despite my reservations about the ethics of it, they are going to have to straighten out the issues they created with the Perspective update before I come off the cash to buy it. I would be really upset if I was like a lot of these guys out $2-4000 and have the trouble they are having now.

Yesterday my son and i fished the same lake .him in his boat and me in mine he used live scope and i used my $20. hummingbird ,he caught 9 and i caught 18 and he fished an hour longer then i. He is all around better fisherman then me. So i don't think i want one. maybe just a fluke but we will see if it happens again.
One of the reasons I go fishing is to get away from staring at a screen.
Not interested in Livescope.
No livescope, maybe livesight someday...
I fished a local lake with several boats around coming and then going . One old timer fished the lake since it was built zeroed , another old timer Spider rigged and caught 2 . I caught a bunch with biggest 13 over 2 lbs and biggest 7 was 15.98 lbs ! It works too good for the fish .:twocents

Deer, turkey, squirrels, or fish, I am out there trying to beat mother nature at her game and in her back yard. I can buy fish. I don't look down on anyone
using Live Scope if it is a method of fishing that they enjoy, I'm not worried about all the fish disappearing because of it. This what our Fish & Game
departments are for. If I were a guide or tournament fisherman I would have to have one or be left behind. I lived and breathed turkey hunting for 30
years and quit when it got easy and my stomach quit getting wheezy and knees getting weak. I still go and watch them once in a while. Sit and watch
and go over hunts of the past. Fish on, any legal way you want to. I'll be out there.
Personally, i love the livescope. I caught a lot fish before livescope and catch a lot with livescope but i do catch fish now that i wouldnt have before livescope. It could make an impact on fisheries IF people have the mind set that they got to keep every legal fish they catch. When i go fishing i dont go to get away from anything or to just get on the water. I go to catch as many fish as i can or testing new colors or styles of jigs..but 99.9% of the fish i catch are released back in.
I’ve had it about a year and a half.
It’s taught me a lot!!!!!!
I have laughed more having livescope and watching the fish, than should be legal.
I am catching less fish than I did before livescope.
That is my choice, now it’s like deer hunting.
Is it big enough?
Do I want to chase it?
Doesn’t mean it will bite, necessarily.
I prefer to keep fish in the 10-12” range for personal eating or giving away.
I like watching the 2# or bigger swim away.
It is just really neat! Remember though I am a 5 year old at heart, and easily entertained.
On my home lake, if you get to close or mess up, they will leave the country!
That’s because my home lake is fairly clear.

I do not have one and most likely will not . Like we have discussed many times " a limit is a limit " . No matter how long it takes , what method you use , as long as it's legal ,do it if it makes you happy . :twocents
Unless you already have two Lowrance up front your going to have to add another unit anyway even if Lowrance figures it out. Even splitting a 12" screen doesn't do the technology justice. Imo the only way to go is at least a dedicated 9" preferably a 10-12" unit for scoping.

That really doesn't hold water though, the limits are based on catch rates of the past. People can say whatever they want, but as Livescope becomes more widespread the percentage of anglers catching limits will dramatically increase. If people can't see that now they aren't looking in the right places. I have never been one to worry about pole limits for spider rigging or trolling because they really aren't the threat Livescope is, especially to big fish.

The dept. of wildlife, fisheries and parks are not in the dark as to how to best regulate our lakes . You are right , may be headed for 5 per day limits , one/two rods , higher price license , permits for special equipment, ect. Whatever they do I will obey the law , but be assure our everyday outlaws will have a more negative impact than those following the law . :twocents

Oh great, another PLS-bashing thread.
:fish
I am not bashing, the original poster asked people's thoughts on it and I bit. It is one of the neatest things I have ever seen. I am just not sure its good for fishing and personally am very conflicted about it. I really enjoyed tournament fishing before it became popular and now if I want to continue I am forced to use a tool that I think is maybe too much and removes skills that were necessary before. Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers.

Just keep hearing negative comments . I love my live scope. Have caught more big fish than ever . I release some , beginning to worry about too much fishing pressure, Right now read our Game and Fish Commission has looked at the issue and not concerned .
It’s simple just release the big ones to fight another day and only keep what you can eat. If you’re not a responsible fisherman pre LS you want be one post LS. My 2 cents.

Need to worry about fishing pressure. why? Improvement in electronics, baits created, improvement of rods and equipment, boat sales, education of the public. I could go on and on as we do surveys in our Sports Shows and it shows the results. Why is all the states Fish & Game Commisions not showing a interest in protecting your fishing more? It’s not from sales of Hunting licenses and hunting equipment as that all peaked 10 or more years ago and it’s the fishing and boating industries that are generating the taxes and the returns to the states from Fed tax returns to the states.as it increases in growth. not the hunting. Do they worry about fish populations? Here in Indiana definitely not with the exception of bass sizes and limits. They contradict themselves saying crappie size wouldn’t make a difference but it does on most other species when the growing season is the same for all species. Right now with no body working? Look around you. It’s packed..River banks and lake banks where the public can bank fish is packed as well as lack of parking at all the boat launches and while our turkey season just ended,,,I could hunt anywhere on State and Fed land without running into another being,,same for our mushroom hunting in the spring. All states know where their income is coming from so it will determine how they respond to the issues. Just my 2 cents,,but our surveys each year teach us how to advertise and where we want to spend our advertising dollars and to which crowds we want to reach to generate attendance and sales to our exhibitors. Fishing is way more of a family participating activity than hunting also.
If you are referring to the trouble with operation or current performance issues folks are experiencing I would somewhat agree. But I really believe Garmin is having hardware issues with some of transducers. There are several guys that have been running it for 1-2 years with top quality professional installs having major trouble now. And one I know that has won multiple tournaments(didn't do the latest updates either)that probably knows it as well as anyone that is having major issues as well. I have personally seen the dead spot on my tournament partners setup with old software too and it wasn't there when he first installed it. It is plain as day on stakebeds we build and fish. While I agree there is a percentage that are bad install/voltage/lack of understanding there is also a major issue going on as well.

I fish brushpiles almost exclusively, one thing I noticed right off, a lot of my waypoints were off just a touch.
I could see the brushpile on my 2d sonar, but livescope showed I was sitting just off the brushpile. 5 to 10 ft.
boat positioning has really improved since I started using livescope..
MO
GPS is can be off + or - about 10' and how you mark it can be a factor . With live scope you only need to be close and you will find it .:twocents Did the same with side image on trolling motor too . But nothing like real time and putting a bait right on their nose with live scope .
I honestly haven't given mine a chance to see how effective I can be with it. My clients love it! They step on the boat and are all over themselves to be able to see one in action. After watching thousands of Asian carp swim around, they lose interest. For the way I fish, trolling 95% of the time, I think the Humminbird Mega 360 will be the tool that will help my clients catch more fish. With being shut down all of April and staying clear of the lakes, I'll get to fine tune my skills on summertime crappie in deep cover when bookings slow down.
I will say this but not to make anybody mad or to sound like sour grapes but after having fished several big crappie tournaments, I'm convinced some of the top tournament winners now would be less than average fishermen without Livescope.
Love mine. I'm not worried about decimating the fish on my part. As an example I went two days ago and caught around 50 crappie. 50+ fish days are fairly normal however I only brought 7 home to cook, the rest went back into the water. Keeping a limit isn't big on my to do list. I usually keep what I want to eat the next night and let the rest go.
Love mine, been having some issues with software and hardware but I still love it. Nothing else out there comes close to providing me instant feedback.
I have trouble looking at one thing very long the beam seems so narrow. I'm just not getting the hang of it yet. I have only been out twice with it. I have it mounted on a separate pole.

Its boat control, its harder than people realize to sit on small objects and hold it in there. With it on a pole or seperate mount you will always be crossing the beam line at angle since trolling motor and Livescope transducer are on separate planes. Sort of like playing shape in pool, you want cue ball running into line with next shot not across the line. My tournament partner has his on separate mount too but no way I could do it like that if I ever put one on my boat.

LS to me is akin to duck huntin with a spinner.
P
I have fished with it quite a bit since the first of April. When I first started with it I was catching a few and the lake I fish most often had a pretty good stain. Since then I am not catching much at all and where I have been fishing the water has become pretty clear. I can see the trees and brush piles and the schools of shad and some big fish that I think are catfish and bass but have had very little luck with the crappie. I can't find any on trees or brush piles and I am beginning to think that it probably has some to do with the clear water. With that being said I still can't imagine that I wouldn't have ran across at least one mentally challenged crappie that would hold at least until I could see him swim away. I am still blown away every time I go out with the LS as it really still excites me to see what it is able to show. I have watched so many youtube videos with most everyone just slaying them on trees, brush piles and also just roaming fish. I am not a quitter and I will not throw in the towel. One video I watched showed an individual just slaying them right on top of a brush pile and he said as long as it is over 10 foot deep then you shouldn't spook the fish. The ones that I have found are between 15 and 25 foot deep. Still plugging away.

I know quite a few folks with livescope and the interesting thing I have found is they release alot more fish now than they ever have. With the exception of guides most crappie fisherman don't want to keep 25 fish every trip out. They are releasing fish because they don't want to clean them. I think the price of the units will have to go down before your average fisherman is going to invest in them.
