bedding bluegills on JDM UL gear

Ultraslab and I met at a small public lake to check on the bream yesterday afternoon. Mostly hand-sized bluegills were on the bed, water temp was mid-70s. I think we both caught and released over 30 fish each, including a few crappie. He used his Tict Rockin' Finesse, and I used both my Tict Rockin' Power and my Yamaga BC 71/TZ Nano JHS. We used small plastics tipped with Berkley power wigglers. Jigs used were 0.5g Daiwa jigs with #10 hook, 1/64 oz with #10 USDM jigs, and I used a 1g Tict jig with a tiny barbless hook that I bought just to try out. It was windy to start, and the 1 g jig helped me with casting.

This lake is a hidden treasure in these times; we only saw one kayak, and one other fishing boat.

Good catch, I stuck a few Cricket Crunchers myself yesterday also. I really like the colors they put on this time of year.

The Tict jigs I used were the Tict Azista, size SS-1.0g, from Plat. They are not barbless as I said incorrectly, they just have a very small barb, which makes it easy to unhook the fish. I didn't lose any because of the hook (a dang bass stole one). @Ultraslab had the Daiwa Gekkabijin in the 0.5 gram #10 hook size, which are perfect for fishing the Renoskys, and some USA 1/64 oz with #8 sickle hook.

Plastics used were mainly the Renosky minnow (deadly on bream), BG Itty Bitty Swim-R (chart/pepper color I think), Mister Twister Micro Craws in red/black, Charlie Brewer small panfish slider grub (only had one red one in the kit, and it was MONEY on the bream, until a bull destroyed it. I'll be ordering more of that color). We tipped the jigs with Berkley power wigglers (Thanks for the tip on those, Randy!). We fished the afternoon 4-8 PM, casting in the shadows of the trees.

The lake I fish most is still in the 66-67 F range, and I am checking it a couple times a week. It has big shellcrackers in it, and I can't wait to get on some.

Forgot to mention I used some Daiwa DPLS mono in #0.4 size (2 lb test) I got on Ebay, on one rod. It casts a mile, but you best set the drag very light. It is clear, and almost impossible to tie a knot in. On the other rod I used the Sunline Area Meister 3 lb test - I love that stuff. It has alternating hi-viz and black sections. I made sure to cut the end and tie on the jig right at the black, so that the bream could not see the line. Big bream are as smart as big bass.

Nice report! How does the Tict Rockin Power Compare to the YB 71 TZ Nano? Did they overpower the bluegill or was it still a good fight? It is a good fight with the Tict Rockin Finesse for sure. I haven’t use the 71 TZ Nano (now 611 TZ Nano) for bluegill yet.

The BC is more "whippy" than the Tict, has more of a parabolic bend, and casts just a smidge farther. They both work great on bream. The BC was purchased for catching river trout on plugs, but it really works great on crappie and bream. The Tict Rockin' Power is awesome for anything, it is only a touch faster than the Rockin' Finesse.

I found my "Renosky Keystone Minnow" at Walmart, but they are little packs with 6 minnows and one jig. Natural perch color seems to be preferred by the bream. They seem to be hard to find at a good price.
