Throw them back.
I agree ... and I'd throw them ALL back. I'd chalk it up as a learning experience, thump therapy, and getting my pullage quota for the day, and then go home happy to have had the opportunity to "play around" with the feisty youngsters (until we meet again & they've grown up) :biggrin
I agree with tossing them back. I would back away from the brush and stop at the first sign of deeper water with a break or some other structure. Bigger ones may have retreated.

I would return with a quality ultralite jiggin rod/reel with 2 or 4lb test line and some small jigs and have a blast ketchn them scrappy dinks!

Early last fall I bet I caught 30 6-8" specks on a new structure I had passed over for many years. I spanked em on the bottom. Thanked em for the ride. And sent em on their way with a minnow in their mouth. Marked that spot, noted it in my ledgar and promised em I'd be back. I fealt really good about next season.

Ever been to a playground? Where’s grandpa? He’s not in there going toe to toe with the kids, he’s sitting off to the side waiting for something interesting to happen. What you've been told about moving around some is spot on. They’re still fish and it may not work every time but it has helped me find better fish.
deeper and or like skeet said off to the side maybe ?
they often stack small on top and big on bottom
Move on .
Fish deeper or shallower. I have read, and found to be the case, that similar sized fish hang out together. If you are catching dinks change it up.
I have read and experienced the same

Try a bigger bait (3 inches is okay). Also be patient and try the spot later. I pulled a ton off a brand new brush pile (almost all small). Then my daughter reels in a 1.86 lber....preach your kids patience and practice what you preach [emoji56][emoji6]Attachment 373963Attachment 373964
