A bottle of vanilla extract. Pour a little in your hand and rub on exposed skin.

They are so bad here that yesterday I had spray bottle and head net and I still left the fish biting! Watching it rain and licking my wounds today.
Vanilla extract & water thinned 50/50 works pretty good in a spray bottle. I'm not sure if a Thermacell would be very effective against Buffalo Gnats or not.
It's going to be a bad year for them, I use vanilla extract myself.
No sir, thermocell does not work, not even a little. By the way, you don't need real vanilla extract, way too expensive. The intimation works just fine, I keep a bottle in my boat at all times. Those knats tear me up!!!Quote:

I had an idea, I have the vanilla extract and was looking at a way of dispensing it without dumping it in my hand and spreading it. Then it came to me that if I put it in an empty Slab Sauce Bottle I could spray it on my exposed areas then rub it in without much waste. This virus needs to get over soon I just might think myself into the poor house with all these bright ideas I keep cumming up with.

Missouri has had to deal with the buffalo gnats several years as well.Ours are just beginning to get bad this year ...nother couple weeks and it will be miserable all over again.The best spray recipe I've used (have tried several) is to get a gallon water container and dump out 2/3 of the water,then add 4-5 bottles of imitation vanilla,1 cup of the brown (original) Listerine.Fill some small spray bottles and apply about every half hour to 45 minutes.It is a short period of relief but it's better than full-time misery.
The other thing I do is to take 2 - 1,000 mg soft gels of garlic every day.Had read it is supposed to help so I do it to better endure the gnats.It takes a few weeks to begin to help.
Lastly when they are really bad I will put in the soft foam ear plugs and again it slows them down....Sounds nutz but does also help.Only problem is you get to experience what being hearing impaired is like which I am anyway.
You might try the spray and I hope it helps with the danged gnats.
I used to also add another product called" Buggins" to the spray but decided it works just as good without it.
We have more problems with out and in gnats.

Anyone try the Old Skin So Soft by Avon against these monsters? ...just mix in a little water with it....

So glad you have it. Keep in mind if you get bit or stung by anything, it will take the itch and sting and swelling out as well. It being all essential oils, it's safe for all including kids and animals. Truely amazing!
Could not hardly believe so small amount could completely eliminate them.I wear glasses so I took them off and put one spray around each ear from about 10 inches. Put glasses back on and it's about like the gnats are on another planet.

Per ounce that stuff is more expensive than what I pay for my wife's perfume. But, I bought some anyway. After all her perfume doesn't keep the gnats away and my fishing buddy's always want to snuggle up to me. Both of which bug me. LOL Thanks for the tip Monkeywrench.
How does it work for mosquitos?
Here’s a write up on Avon’s bug spray ...great stuff,,, I use it mostly around lakes when shooting archery tournaments and it works great,,,,my wife and I have sold this stuff for years,,,an absolute lifesaver for all types of outdoorsmen...let me know if anybody needs some,,Avon ships direct...
