I was thinking of taking a day off work Friday to head out to Rend for some crappie. Was wondering if they’re in the buckbrush yet, if there are any baitshops to get minnows, and what ramps are open. Any help is appreciated thank you!!

I don't live in Illinois any longer, but would guess Rend to be closed with IDNR shutting down for COVID-19? I would check before going.
Rend is open. Only three ramps currently. Dam West, Gunn Creek, and North Marcum. The fish are probably starting to show up in the buck brush.

Fished Rend Sunday. We bought minnow at the Tackle Box and used Gunn Creek ramp. Water temp 51-54, and didn't find any in the buckbrush. Everyone wash still fishing deep. We caught them in 10-12 FOW.
Thank you for the replies!!!
Ryno1967 where is the tackle box?
The bait shop by the motel just off I-57 on 154 should be open. I caught fish Monday in 10' and 5-6.5. fishing 4-5' deep
Oh ok. It used to be lake zone bait and tackle
Lol. No problem
A friend of mine was down there today fishing in between the rain. Water temp was 60-62. A few starting to show up in the bushes.
They were using jigs...I would have been using minnows. But I have no room to suggest anything, they were fishing and I was home working!
There was about 75 trailers at the Gun Creek ramp today...hopefully a few of them caught a few.
They were parked sideways, in the aisles, almost impossible to get thru. It was nuts. I had 8 over 10".
How are they biting? Spawn still on?
Headed to Rend tomorrow for only my second time. Any recommendations on ramp to use or areas to start looking for fish? Put in last time right across 154 from Wayne Fitzgerald is this ramp open? Thanks!
That ramp closed, use the one closer to I57. Gun creek
I have ended up fishing the Jackie Branch area. Looks promising is this a good area?
I have not been so I can not say where the current best area is, but in the past, there is lots of good fishing all over that area. Move around and try bushes until you catch a fish, if you catch one stop and work that area over as there are generally more than one. Water is up, so you may have to move in farther to the bank than you would think. There area along the road has lots of trees down that can hold fish as well. Good luck.
Thanks!
Dancing jig,
Any luck in Jackie Branch? I’m planning to head to Rend this weekend.
What ramps r open on rend. Thanks
Thanks any weather.
IL.now. open to fishing state wide...2 in boats only.
Not state wide, state areas near Peoria/Pekin remain closed. Somebody around here must have P.O.'d the powers that be.
So, when they say two to a boat, does that include the guide too? I couldn't bring a partner with me if I'm fishing with a guide?
Nope
Fished Gun Creek today. water temps 68-71. Kept 13 nice ones. They are in the bushes, but not thick in the bushes. Had to cover a lot of ground and keep moving. The few females we kept had soft eggs, but not really soft and veined. I’m no expert, but would guess they have a few more weeks.
we didn’t get to the ramp until 10:40, was surprised to see only 15-20 trailers in the parking lot.
Whats going on at rend? Did the cold front and rain this week drive them out of the buck brush? Im taking a pretty big risk going Sunday, just wondering if the pay off will be worth the trouble of going fishing on mothers day.
If your afraid the risk is too much...stay home. If on the other hand you like to fish you should go whenever you get the chance. They are always biting somewhere
Any good stories from down there ? I sure would like to make the trip. How many ramps open ?Any hotels open ?

Went yesterday water temp southern end at 60F. Still in the bushes but they have slowed down the aggressiveness quite a bit.
Went Sunday, the morning rain was light and there was sun shine for a few hours. Got my limit out of the buck brush.
