I know items are generally worth whatever someone will pay for them. I usually look at NADA values and what other boats are listed for and found the NADA is generally close for boats such as Tracker. Do you use anything different? I came across an aluminum Ranger that I may be interested in, but am not seeing many for sale for comparison.
A thing I have done in the past worked fairly well. I knew someone in an insurance claim dept. I had them look up what would be paid for total loss. To me that's what the boat was worth. It's a starting point anyway.

A few years ago I was looking at used outboard motors. Checked nada prices and found their prices were extremely low on the values of used outboards. I could never come close to their valuation of them. All the used motors I looked at were way higher. Their low valuations didn't seem reasonable. Just my opinion. O - R
The area of the country you are in has a lot to do with it too. For instance we have a lot of lakes around here restricted to small motors so prices for them are higher than other parts of the country.
its been my belief in many cases and not just boats , the amount of used ones for sale will tell you what you need to know .
A lot of one kind typically means something and not much of another means typically quite the opposite if both items are fairly numerous to begin with .

In the past, I've looked at used prices, - Craigslist, etc. Also, keep in mind, what you would ask for it, if it was yours to sell.
NADA, around here, from what I've seen, is either way high - or way low.
As barnacle Bill said, we also have some hp restricted lakes, those class/hp boats hold value better.
I figured these were the answers, but thought I'd ask anyways. :biggrin I agree with all of the above.
What did you decide - for the ranger?
I'm working out of town for a few weeks, so I haven't even really bothered anyone. However, I do have 4 boats in mind, that I am going to give an offer on if they aren't sold by the time I get off. Due to this pandemic and the fact that the boats are scattered, I'm going to offer my max, with the assumption the boat is in the described condition. If they agree, I'll go see. I assume some will take it as a bad thing, but I must limit my exposure in order to protect my family. I like a 2011 Nitro Z-7, but not sure I want a boat of that age, plus those boats were bad for hull hook. I'd like a Z-6 because they fit my budget, but there aren't many around......The gentleman with Ranger came down without asking and isn't far from what I'd pay, so I'd say odds are I will go for it. Unless, I decide to wait on a Z-6 or even a good deal on a Z-7.
I have a tendency to wait and see if the ad is up for along time l am more willing to try and low ball first offer, if they sound like they might consider it then I will go and look.
Since it will be a few weeks before I go home, I've really paying attention to a few clean boats and seeing how quick they sell. The biggest decision I am facing is, do I want to spend a few more thousand on a bigger boat. Truth be known, I'd jump on a deal for a 175 aluminum, but same for a Nitro, Skeeter, etc. :juggle
This is what I'm seeing too and what prompted me to start my most recent thread. NADA is way lower than what most folks are asking for their late-model, clean, used boats. NADA is also "retail low-average" and if buying from an individual you would expect to be even less. For the boats I'm looking at, most folks will just laugh or not respond when I offer based on low retail NADA.Quote:
