LOZ Tips

Hi all, my buddy and I are going down to LOZ Friday through Wednesday and this will be our first time fishing specifically for crappie there. I have been to the lake my whole life but have never had access to a fishing boat to use until now. We are located close to the 5 mm and will be fishing generally in that area. If anyone has any tips as to where we should start, that would be very helpful. We are planning on looking for warmer water to fish around pea gravel banks if it warms up some and fishing docks. Just curious about what we should look for in general like what types of docks and/or docks back in coves or out closer to the channel, that type of thing.

Watch Mike Baker Videos on Youtube. He fishes that area of the lake and I believe up the Gravois. His videos are great - great video quality and great content. He actually tries to teach you something.

They have been in the coves with creeks around 15FOW biting at 8-10ft. I hear lots of guys saying they are starting to move in shallower, but I haven't changed a thing in weeks. I get a couple limits in a few hours. I've been fishing Truman though and last years flood resulted in a banner harvest this year.
The biggest mistake about fishing LOZ is not going where the fish are. With boats on lifts guys stay close to home, use a trailer and go where the fish are.

We're pulling the boat down with us so we can certainly move about. Problem is we don't know where the fish are hahah

Gravois arm comes up alot.
Mill Creek has several creeks flowing in, also Bogue Bay, Racoon Hollow, Cedar Hollow, all look good. Id put my money on Little Gravois Creek or dry branch maybe.
Look for named creeks flowing into the coves.
Hedge your bets too. double jig or double hook your lines.

we used to have a place at 6 mile cove and that is a good one to hit or go up gravois arm as several have said and find coves with creeks. this time of year spend time hitting docks off points in deeper, then shallower then brush out in coves till you find the pattern which changes quite a bit. baitwaster has real time information that I would heed myself.

We ended up getting a guide for Saturday and we cleaned 30. Yesterday we had trolling motor issues and had to quit after just a couple fish. Trolling motor got repaired this morning and we just caught 9 in an hour or so this afternoon.

Mostly around 5mm. Tried Gravois with no success but our boat doesn't have electronics to help find fish or structure. Pretty much just guess work.

Where you catchin? creeks, banks, docks? how deep? Glad you found some!
