Looks Lomé DHL and Digitaka for a while. This is the email I received. Would have been nice to know before hand.

Sorry for inconvenience.
Actually EMS service for all worlds are complicating a lot due to covid virus.
In fact almost all EMS we shipped out were returning to us everyday, and we switched to DHL for resending.
SInce this reason we will use DHL for all of our orders at this moment until the EMS service is recovered.

At the moment not so worried about getting the delivery. It should be fine. I am more worried about all the associated fees that might follow it. Such as taxes, handling fees and other charges. With EMS I never had these charges.

I have not had fees or taxes with DHL. It's all how the shipper marks the item.
I also got a shipping notice from Digitaka stating DHL is the shipper.
Will I be in for a surprise in a few weeks, and if so, how much? My order was around $305.
You don’t know. You may or may not get hit with a fee. If you do get hit with one the bill will come in the mail several weeks later. Of course no way to tell if the virus situation changes on how this is done. The fees will not be huge....but after spending 300-400 dollars on gear none of us want to get hit with another fee.Quote:

I just received my rod from DHL today. I ordered it last week. The order came pretty fast. I guess I have to wait and see if I get another bill in the mail from DHL. I will keep you guys posted.
Props to DHL for all the updates... got 8 updates on 2 orders today... I do like that just hoping I won’t get a bill... the 2 that are moving are the ones I ordered on Saturday... one with Plat and one with Japan Amazon... both are already in the states and will be delivered tomorrow and Friday... 2 orders from 2nd and 3rd are no where to be found yet... also placed another order with Digitaka on Saturday and they sent me an email saying it would be DHL but haven’t gotten a confirmation of shipment yet... Plat, Amazon Japan, and DHL are on the ball...

I have never experienced an issue with DHL. From my experience, good customer service, quick deliveries, even a Saturday delivery once. Have never gotten a bill for additional charges on an import shipment. However, I guess it can and does happen from time to time.
My first knowledge of DHL was back in 1980 when I first set foot in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was a widely used carrier in the Middle East. If you want an interesting read check out the story of the guys that created the company. One of them disappeared and his fortune I guess is still being fought over. He evidently left a string of children across Asia. The last I read one case had been settled for a ton of money.

The order from Plat and Amazon JP arrived the other day... Plat was Daiwa Jigheads and one of the Daiwa EM-MS reels that are on Plat... the reel was for my dad and the jigheads for me :) from Amazon I picked up a JDM Abu Garcia Classics Rod... it is a 5’6” ultra light... whippy thing haha... has a TN handle on it... pretty neat and should be fun on trout... one order hasn’t even been checked in and that is my reel upgrade kits from hedgehog and then 2 orders from digitaka are stuck... digitaka order is for some plastics, jigheads, and a daiwa tatula...
Doesn’t sound like service with DHL being an issue. You will know soon on any additional charges. Glad shipments are getting through.

Very tempting it is to go the DHL route – even though I can't fish, having new gear in my hands is quite satisfying. I know, there is no logic to it...
It's been a little while. Has anyone heard anything from DHL about additional charges?
I have not received any other fees in the mail yet. Fingers crossed that I don’t.

I checked the DHL website and you can submit an inquiry for duties and taxes by filling out and submitting an online form. I also found information under optional services that stated that the shipper may pay the duties and taxes. But that was optional and I'm not sure that is the case here with Digitaka?
My Daiwa Luvias arrived today, it took just 4 days. I will say DHL is very efficient with their logistics. On the shipping label it states duties and taxes will be paid by the receiver. My wife signed for this shipment and was not asked to pay anything.
Earlier today I emailed Asian Portal about customs fees, I would like to order a Daiwa reel from them and they are utilizing FedEx. Here is their reply:
"Hello. Thank you for your inquiry.
If your purchase is less than $800, you probably won't be charged import duties.
However, if you require accurate information and confirmation of the tariff, we recommend a prior confirmation to FedEx.

I don't think I'm going to chance any future orders until EMS Japan is back up and running. I still have (2) light action Megabass rods (a Levante F3 Whipsnake and F1 Orochi XXX Slender) stuck at Japan customs since April 3.

Thanks. The info in that link does seem to imply that if DHL doesn't collect duties at the time of delivery, you're off the hook.
Nice going with the Megabass rods... Looks like I'll be filling my light action line-up with Yamaga and Tict...
