fish from today 5/7/07

Didn't get out on the red until around 9' and didn't get into my hole and fishin' until about 10' this morning. Point being, I bass fished for about 3hours and then the last hour I had I tried some new holes for gills. Kept 31 to take home to fry this evening. The river is up and my holes had a little stain to the water but the fish didn't care. Caught a bunch more than in the pic but have a ton in the freezer. Get out there b/c there on. Its about to be the last days of the full moon so take advantage. Keep the corks a flushin'!!

It's not just you,Kendall2007. This time of year I make sure I have a lot of time off. I went last saturday, sunday, tuesday, wednesday, and friday. I am not going this weekend unless something changes. During the week is better b/c you've got less boat traffic and the fish aren't as spooky. Gotta catch while they're on. Keep the corks a flushin'!!

are those the shell crackers i keep hearin about ? been trying alittle brim fishin this year but so far to many little ones for me.

Well bama647, around here the pins have pretty much givin' up the ghost as far as spawning.(that is,"really spawning") I catch a few here and there off the beds but only about 1 every 20 bluegill. The warm temps hit early this year so obviously the water warmed up fast. The chiquapin in my area spawned hard the very first few days of April and end of March(full moon). We did get into some good about a week and half before this last full moon. Generally the shellcrackers will spawn before the gills and not repeatedly like them either. There "2nd" run is usually a week or so before the full moon because of a noncompete factor with all the bluegill. That is my theory over the years and usually holds true. So, we are catching them hit and miss. I have some spots for them post spawn but mid depth(10-15ft on some structure).
