1/80th oz craft fur with flash

This was an experiment. My wife sent me to Joann's fabric store for some candle making stuff.
Of course, I was on the hunt for alternate tying material. I found this craft fur that had flash in it. The hair is about 1 1/2" long. I bought a piece for $1.95, it was 2" x 4' long.
The hair is easy to tie on this tiny 80th oz jig. I put a bit of yellow feather down (as close to marabou as I have gotten). I tied a silver flake mini chenille on for the body. And the second one with black chenille.

I wish I could have found some Chartreuse or Olive green. Either way, I have some feux fur to play with now.Attachment 368059
This one doesn't have enuf yellow to make it balanced. It's a bit too wispy.

I think this one looks best, it has better yellow bou mixed with the craft fur/flash.

I know a guide here that uses only Craft Fur for his jigs and tied it full length. That kind of craft fur for fly tying is long. I have some and tried it, the crappie like it just fine, but I didn't. What I didn't like is how tangled they can get with each other. I had several in a box together and then getting them back apart just made me mad so I stopped tying with it, lol!

The stuff I like best was in the old first stuff before they came out with the so called select. They had a great color that started off Black at the base and as it went out to the tips it starts to go to White.

^^^^^^That's the reason, I do not like it, but I still use it. Nice looking jig.

Extra select craft fur has worked well for me in the past. Please don’t make me dig it out. It took me a few tries to find the one I liked. That jig will do fine and put fish in the boat.

I'd find some Darice craft fur in that color so you don't waste as much!!

Took advice from this site

- painted yellow eye with end of toothpick
- wrapped extra round of chenille against head

Looks like it will catch a fish! You don't have any small drill bits with a flat butt? That is what I use to paint eyes and if you have a set you can also add a Black Pupil with a smaller bit.

Skip has a good point, I use nail sets too. Good tying job.

Yeah, I do, and I remember our conversation about that... What my problem is remembering to bring some in from my storage where my tools are. The other factor is being steady enuf to put it where I want it and up close vision good enuf to see to do it, lol .....

Even though there is definitely an issue with the craft hair jigs tangling with each other it's not a reason to stop using them. I've caught my biggest crappie and large mouth bass using them. Packaging is key. I put 3-4 jigs in a 2x3 zip lock bag and using a clip from a chain stringer poke a hole in the top of the bag and slide it down. Jigs don't tangle and you can store quite a few bags of jigs on one clip. I use the stringer clips for my jigs and tying materials as well to keep them better organized.

I have a lot of jigs in the little bags too and have been thinking about removing all my jigs from the little boxes I have them in. I have used a ziplock sandwich bag to hold a lot of the little bags of jigs before too and may think about your clip method, not sure yet.

I just bought some of the 2x3 zip lock bags... I was thinking of either just the bags or a plastic box with some pool noodle inside to have the hooks attached on. Your method also sounds good!

Hobby lobby and sometimes Walmart have the bags cheap. I think I have em in 3 sizes.
