I don't think there are that many "species" of Crappie, but there certainly are several variations other than the Black & White Crappie.
I would assume these are the "7" he was referring to :
Black Crappie
White Crappie
Hybrid Crappie (natural hybrid)
Blacknose Black Crappie (Black Crappie w/marking gene)
Magnolia Crappie (lab produced hybrid)
Blacknose White Crappie (natural hybrid) :dono
Golden Crappie
I've only seen/caught the first 4 ... but I've seen pics of all 7 versions.
I have heard of them there was a guy in the newspaper not long ago that caught one. There very rare because normally they are singled out and eaten according to TWRA. But they do exist

Beautiful fish! Never seen anything like that in this neck of the woods.
seen a few photos of them , seen one that appeared to be a white with that gold coloration mutation as well .
the number 8 fish is a black with NO markings and I have seen at least 3 of those ,2 of them I managed myself.
some of the "species" are not species but just color variables btw
Good looking crappie
Must be the Corona virus. At least, that's what the news media blames for everything else
We have those in Ok if you know where to look.

As time goes on I'm seeing more and more variations...... My home lake for years only had white crappie and all of a sudden there were as many black crappie then came the black nose on the black crappie and as of now I've caught two white crappie with the black stripe down its nose......
No telling what's coming next......
I knew I caught that one "white black nose crappie" but it was brought to my attention that I had caught another in a different skscrappiecatchingadventure vid...... WOW.....
