I have that rod in med light. I love it for large gills, and white bass.
If you can put your hands on both rods, give them a good shake and tip test, then decide about how each will be used in your pursuit of said Panfish. Too whippy, choose the ML, too rigid choose the UL. Float fishing, cast and retrieve small jigs, live bait, all factor in the action rod you might choose.
Get the UL and drop down to 4# line.
After further review looking looking into Daiwa Presso and Bass Pro
micro lite and Shakespeare Microlite
The Bass Pro Microlites are decent rods for the money. They usually go on sale at the big spring fishing classic.
And....if Bass Pro has the rod trade in credit this year as they have in the last several years, you can take a pole you do not use or is older and get a 10$ trade in value towards the Microlite. They take the traded in rod and donate it to charity, a win win situation. Further advantages to the Bass Pro rods, if you are located near a store, you can put the rod in your hands and try the different actions. I prefer the 7ft ML, not a buggy whip and plenty of backbone for the big bullies.
My dad loves the daiwa presso rods for his crappie fishing and I have had several bps micro lite rods over the years... those get my vote
I agree with Stans statement, don’t buy anything you don’t handle first. I also have had at least one of every Shakespeare micro spinning rod between 4’6” and 7’. Given away the 4’6” and 5’, too short for the way I fish. The 5’6”, 6’, and 6’6” really shine for casting and the 6’ and 6’6” also do well for float and jig. At less than $20 they work very well for most everything I’ve targeted along with the unexpected species that come along. I’ve never used line heavier than 6lb, used mostly 4lb, and have a 5’6” now with 2lb crappie mono.
I know this doesn’t help with the ugly stick, but I just don’t like them. When I flip them in the store I feel the muscle on the top of my forearm working to control the rod. Doing this for long periods fatigues my arm and my casting accuracy suffers. This isn’t the case with the micro series. I hope you get to handle both and find what you’re after. Just my opinion.
Yes felt Ugly stick just doesn't have the feel
Ugly Sticks are “Dead” rods. As has been mentioned the BPS Micro and Daiwa Presso will serve you much better.

An option might be the Leland TSS. And if you break the tip, according to Randy's latest video, you can get a replacement for $10. Randy is giving one away right now on his YouTube channel.

I also own a TSS Leland rod and like it fine. But it isn’t $20. As I’m fishing these new to me rods I’m finding what characteristics I like in common rods. It’s funny that some of the cheap rods perform very well. Every cherrywood rod I’ve owned, thats 3 rods, have wound up broken and in the trash. I fish these other rods the same way with better results. Berkley Lightning Rod is another of my favorites but handle it before you buy it. They’ve changed them from when I bought mine and I can’t vouch for the newer ones being like what I own. If you listen to nothing else I ever say, pay attention to this. If you’re looking for that special rod that is an extension of your mind and index finger, handle it first. Put the reel on it you plan to use and feel it’s balance, this is also very important. Take your time as there is a lot to choose from. The process is very much worth it.
Glad you liked the pics. I like to mix it up, bass and panfish. I have been downsizing my take for bass though. Even more fun catching the bass on the light stuff.
The videos aren't mine. Those are by Victor in Chicago.
Has anyone used a Finwick Eagle Spinning Rod for panfish
Medium Light/ Moderate fast.
line weight 4-10
lure weight 1/8 - 5/8. 5 year warranty
leaning towards this one
EPS power lite is next to it
medium rod
line 4-8
lure 1/32-3/16. For panfish and light Bass
1year warranty
both close to same price
I second Discos suggestion. I owned 3 ESP rods.....both of the Power Lite rods and the 65 UL. None of those rods are a medium power. The Power Lite models are both really UL rods.....albeit not quite like most US domestic rods off the shelf. They are not as soft.

You might call Wade that’s who I talked to He said this rod is actually a Medium rod.
The Finwick rod series are Medium, Medium lite, and Ultra Lite. Talked to Finwick customer service Tec person and for Blue Gill and Crappie he recommended the Medium Lite as best choice.
You can catch just about any species of fish on a broom handle if you want to. Just a lot more fun with a decent rod. I'm an UL fan and am seriously considering the Presso. I_fish has some great videos for sure.
I have 2 6ft esp power lites that I used to cast jigs with... they certainly aren’t medium action rods... I did use them a lot before I got into the JDM gear...
