I was just watching a video with a man from NC that goes by PR on YouTube. He was proud to be fishing with his new Corley rod, and I couldn’t help but think that might be you. While he didn’t show it off too much in the early part of the video, I did like the action of the rod. What I saw looked well done. Do you know what blank was used for that rod and how long it was? He was sure having lots of fun with it. Thanks......Skeet

Mornin Dave, he catches a lot of white bass or perch in the video and I didn’t watch it all the way through. He introduces the rod in his lead in. From what I saw I liked it.
Yup watching it now. I’m pretty sure it’s Brent Corley. My buddy caught a 2.7 lb crappie on his rod last week. Wonderful watching that rod handle that beauty. Quality work for sure!

It’s a great rod if it’s anything like my buddies. Very sensitive, cast a mile and handles them great. My buddy is spoiled right from the start.....lol.
A couple of videos back he did an in-depth review of the rod. If I remember correctly, the rod builder is from Texas.

Yep Dave in the very beginning of the video he named Corley, Brent Corley... thank you for sharing Skeet and Dave..
PR was a joy to build the rod for. We talked for a few days about what he wanted and we came up with a 6ft UL 1-5 Line with a mod action because he wanted the rod to have a lot of give. From what I can tell he really seem to like it, he wanted me to move the hook keeper for the next build but that's the only complaint he has had. I Just finished building a 6'6" for one of PR friends, that is almost a copy of the rod superdave won for his friend.
If I’m not over stepping my bounds, what blank was that? Most I find are either too soft or broomstick. Nice work, and PR is definitely sold on it. I have one here, a 6’ that I haven’t started yet. Feels good but more medium than light action I prefer. Probably make it and give it to my brother. Thanks.....Skeet
My buddy gets them from his blank supplier for me for 100$ a peace. Since the blank is not a production blank, I don't even get a warranty on the blank. Most crappie fishermen think having a 200$ rod is the biggest waist of money and would never spend that on one. That's why I decided to build one for PR was to see what he had to say. Days when the crappie are slamming the bait yea any rod will work. On the days when the bite is light or the winds blowing, having that sensitive of a rod crappie fishing is a priceless tool. Because you can still feel the thump plain as day. If you watch the rod in this video when one of them pops the jig you can see the tip jump.

GB, you hit the nail on the head when referencing what many crappie anglers will spend on a rod! I have a buddy in the soft plastic business that says the same thing about crappie anglers, soft plastics, and prices. He always says he never has to worry about that with the walleye or steelhead anglers.
I have sold probably 30 ish crappie rods and every time they come tell me about the same thing. I didn’t know they thumped it that hard. Compared to a standard 30 to 50$ crappie rod it feels like someone hit the rod with a stick at times when they thump it lol. But it’s a tool that’s not for everyone. And I can completely agree I have bass and saltwater guys fork over 500$ all the time trying to get the most out of a rod they can. I mean a titanium torzite guide set for a spinning rod is 180$ and some of the carbon blanks push 300$ And above. We haven’t even got a handle reel seat or my time in that build lol
Yup, the last custom walleye jigging rod I did for a guy was just over $500 bucks! And it would never cast anything. ONLY for verticle jigging. Everybody (including himself) purchased a very specific brand of rod. To say it was the gold standard to be measured by from the community was an understatement. Everybody always talked about how light they were and how sensative they were.Quote:

I hear you on that one. I fish to much and have a job so I just build rods when I feel like it unless its for a buddy or a good customer. I'm like you I'll tell anyone what I use so they can build it or help anyone that wants to bounce ideas around. I still call my buddy's that build rods for a living when I'm thinking of something outside my box. Rod building is a dying art and most guys are so hush hush about it. I was lucky and had a number of guys to teach me and I believe in passing that along.

Honestly that’s why I started building them. I can build a rod cheaper then I can buy one with the parts I want on it. If you watch when different places have sales you can get the parts at a low price. If I was doing this to make money I’d be selling a crappie rod for 300$ since most guys charge 120$ in labor per rod. I’m just building a name so if I want to one day it took off I could walk down that road.
