Dip net

I have searched and I am surprised to find nothing on this topic! I am trying to find a good replacement dip net and want some advice. The current one I have has a telescopic handle - twist to extend, twist to lock. Problem is one section won't lock. The handle slides in and out and also rotates at will.

I am needing an extendable net again. I like pulling/trolling jigs and would like something that is not like a drift sock in the water while I am moving would be nice.

Anybody got any ideas? Thanks!

hereis my opinion. I bought a couple years ago one of the rubber nets with the handle u speak of. never been sorry--never had a hook catch in it ever. i think i got it at grizzly jigs. just google they great folks

An inexpensive wooden handle crab net, like you can get in convenience stores near the coast, works well. I have a 6 footer that I wrapped tape around the handle, and it works great. Light. No hooks get caught in netting. Netting is fairly open (about like chicken wire) that easily sweeps through the water with little drag. Wooden handle even floats! You can spend a lot of $ for an extendable handle, but I prefer my $5.99 variety.

Unfortunately so can I! I lost two of "these nets" last spring (my own clumsiness) but that didn't stop me from replacing them with an identical one off Amazon. Lightweight, best net I've ever used for crappie BUT I wish they would remove "and it floats" from their advertising FOREVER! rotfl

Guys here is one I bought at JCs Outdoors several years ago. It is 6.5 ft. closed and 11 ft extended. I added a piece of swim noodle so it does float.

To make a net float, you can also squirt Great Stuff expanding foam inside the handle. Works best on non extending aluminum handles.

I replaced my broken Ego net with the same Cummings net like Searay has. I did take the rubber net from the Ego and put it on my Cummings. BTW, the Cummings is a very light net to handle.

I have the EGO Reach S1 - the older cheaper version. It worked fine for a year. Just figured there was something better out there. Seems a lot of folks like this one.

SeaRay, my uncle has that same net (minus the float) and it will about pull you in the water when landing a fish. Other than that, I do like it. Change that like was already stated and it would be perfect.

Brett, not looking to use it other than landing a crappie at the surface. Not chasing fish under the boat like bass, catfish, or stripper fishing. Just need the length to reach the "lane" between the lines where the fish is coming in. I got other nets for those adventures.

I'm assuming you mean it is heavy with the "pull in the water" analogy. Makes me think it's a different net because mine is very lightweight. However if you get a decent size fish in a net extended 12' away from you it will feel very heavy. I rarely ever extend it beyond the 6' length.

My Cummings is the lightest I could find. Adding the rubber netting made it a bit heavier but it was nothing near as heavy as my Ego net was. If you find something that reaches out there that is much lighter then please post it. I'd certainly be interested.:)

I mean the net itself has a lot of resistance in the water. Hard to control it with the boat moving 1 mph and a fish moving around. The one I have passes right through the water like a hot knife through butter. The weight of both is fine.

Jenko is the lightest net on the market. Depending on which net material you chose they weigh between 16 and 19 ounces. Pretty sure they extend to 12ft. There is a good video on youtube by the guy that designed it. I will have one on my boat this year.

Are you pushing or pulling? I always pull and just let my net ride on top of the water until the fish over the rim of the net.

I use a "crab" net from a tourist shop at the beach.

I have the same one as Sea Ray. I drilled another hole in between the 2 holes to shorten it up some. I have 2 of them, if it broke for some reason I would get another one tomorrow. I like the noodle on it will add one to mine this weekend
