As best I can tell. Those I’ve caught recently haven’t been Plump yet and they’re very scattered. We got a while to go yet.
The ones I have caught the last few weeks have been very plump and the few fat ones that I have kept were plum full of eggs. With that said I have started weighing and snapping a picture then releasing the fat ones. I am further south a little from the St Johns

Specks are in the pads on Harris---spawning???
Depends on the lake, but February a good time to start checking...
I'll be heading down in a couple weeks (first time this early) to fish little lake George area as we've only been coming a couple of years and then March-May time frame. I've had good brim and cracker luck mid April so I hope to get a few crappie as well . Good luck and if you see a blue tracker175 tf from Ohio give me a shout ,love the area as it's only 1 1/2 hrs from our daughter and family .
I'm on the Harris Chain, and I think they are trying to spawn cause of the warmer weather, but the last two days it's been cooler, so they prolly moved back out. If it warms up again, they will prolly come back in. The few that I have cleaned have had eggs, but not as developed as I think they need to be to spawn. All I can say, they are certainly thinking about it, and if the weather warms, they will be ready real soon. IMHO
Have you caught any recently real shallow or have they been deep latley?Sent from my SM-N950U using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
I've caught them relatively shallow. 5 ft, and even three ft off my sea wall, but only a couple off the sea wall. So they are trying, and checking in on the shallows.
I mainly fish st johns river and couple lakes it goes through. Googled it and said it typically is first full moon in February but water temps have to be right but scientists/biologist aren't always right. Mainly mullet lake area, did good there last march through may. Fox lake over here in Titusville has specks just not like the st. John's river though. I need to make a run to FL for a week long fishing trip one of these years.
When you get reports of blood showing within egg sacks head outm!!!!m
56 degree water after 8-12 days straight. Here in MS they come to the bank and start dropping eggs!!
To answer your question, I haven’t tried any shallows out in the lake but have in the river. Nothing yet IMHO.
Need to get back out there. I'm sure the water has dropped in temperature. Launch Cameron Wright Park/SJR. Look around the deep in the channels there. Been cravin' those tasty critters lately. Sent from my SM-N950U using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
A few from Jesup had early sac development caught in open water the other day, I'd bet if water temps are in the mid-to low 60's around the full moon February 9th, I believe....you'll limit out easy, just look for activity against the reeds on the banks at Jesup, worth a try if your launching from Cameron Wright...
What area do you primarily fish?

Forecasted to be in the 80's this weekend, the fish aren't going to when to spawn the way the temperatures keep fluctuating. I've seen the water temperature go from 70 down to 60 and back in the last 3 weeks

My wife and I will be on St.johns the last 2weeks of Jan. The 10day forecast looks like consistent Temps mid 70s to low 80s, I am hoping this will trigger them. We have fished there the past couple years once in Jan and last year in Feb and didn't see any spawning activity.
Good LUCK I hope ya'll wear them out!!!!Sent from my SM-G960U using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
I worked hard to get a Grand sum of 2 in the last 3 days at our little pond(Lake Jem). Still in cooler on ice hoping they get some company. They were in 18-20 of water

Personally I think it depends where on the lake you catch them too. I am finding eggs in the ones I've been catching. But I've not been fishing 15fow.
Kept 16 fishing Beauclair in 5 ft of water & none of them hasd eggs. That was Wednesday
I got squat cuz I ain’t been. Chasin Shad tomorrow.
