Spider rig dbl rigs

Does everyone use jig heads when tieing double rigs or do some of you run a combination of hooks and jig heads? reason being I usually pre tie a dble Capps and Colman style rig with 1/16"oz jig heads, then got to thinking if I tied the top rig with a small hook vs a jig head it would have less weight so more action. I discussed this with Russ Bailly (Brushpile fishing) at a show this past winter and recommended using a small sickle style worm hook by Matzula as the top jig, well I ordered a couple small bags but cant seem to find them anywhere.

I use two #1 duo lock snaps when I tie my rigs, this way I can change out any lure or hook that I may need in any scenario. The fish don't mind the extra hardware down here, they ain't skiddish. I prefer the stainless steels from Janns Netcraft, the other #1 sizes from most manufacturers are to large for double rigs, but fine for crank-baits and mainlines. :twocents

Yes, I've used the duo locks but didnt care for them. I just think using your fav plastic on a sm worm hook lets the offering have more action then a lead head jig.

I use a #2 long shank aberdeen on top. Never ran it with plastic, always with a minnow.

1/8 oz. sickle jigs on bottom with gnats on top . Two poles this way and gnats and jigs reversed on the other two . All with fas-snaps so I can switch to which the fish are hitting . My first switch will be to red , gold , or green hooks .

I make mine up with a #2 aberdeen minnow hook on top and a 1/16th. oz. pony head jig on the bottom. I use this set up 95% of the time.

I've done it both ways, switching off on using minnows and jigs on both hooks at different times. I prefer the jigs since I have become lazy and don't need to get a new jig after every fish. :Rofl I was fishing doubles deep this past week, with a 1/32 oz jig on top and a 1/4 oz jig on the bottom. At one point I went to a 1/2 oz sinker on the bottom with a 1/32 oz on top just so I could get past the white bass schools to the crapper suspended below them.

Just fish what ever combination that makes you the happiest and works for the moment.

I run a little bit of everything... I’ll do just two hooks or a hook and 1/8oz jig or gnat and jig, double gnats... just depends on what they want!

I agree, I am very interested as well!

I tend to use minnows always when spider rigging but not on jigs till the fish show they will not hit the jig without the minnow . If I speed up to power troll, minnows may not be used nearly as much . bladed baits may not need minnows with curly tails above .5 mph .

When fishing this way I always tip my jig with a minnow.
