Happy new year!
That looks like a great time Steve. I'm thinking about ice fishing that weekend. Houghton lake has some fishable ice.

What are you guys doing ? Nobody posting....are you iced in ? Where is Wilbur ?
Wilbur is resting up for spring fishing, which may be soon the way this weather is going.
no safe ice around me, but to much ice for boating.
we just had our last "Christmas" yesterday, so time to get things in shape for this years fishing.
I guess it’s a dead time here.
No safe ice to fish on
Some have their boats put away for the winter
So no new topics being posted causes lack of posting and interest..... hence the dead time.
However this is a off topic thread and everyone has something going on, so here goes:
I am finishing up some loose ends in my work that couldn’t get finished earlier. Vbottom helped me get one completed yesterday and we will try to finish another today.
Judy and I have a 40 year anniversary trip coming up to somewhere both warm and historical. I thought about getting a fishing charter on that trip but I could buy OEs boat for what they charge.....well not really but it’s a lot of money so I’ll pass.
My dad is 94 and just bought a brand new truck, Hope I will be blessed with his longevity however being around stupid people another 30 years isn’t appealing and there seems to be an abundance of stupid people.
Possums BIG D is over, he picked up the last of his stuff a couple days ago.....I could tie this paragraph into the above stupid people comment, but I hope she gets a visit by karma
YouTube videos are still fun, last one I made was a subscriber giveaway
YouTube
Which is funny if you can read the comments, Rich posted 4 bogus answers (yes he knows the correct ones) and because people are again stupid people, 3 copied his very wrong answers. Nope they won’t be winning anything!
So that’s my off topic recent stuff, who else has something going on? Boat rigging maybe? Has to be somebody doing something......

wellllll.
planerboard maint is on my to do list!
ordered new pads for all of my red release clips, had problems with several slipping last year, new pads should fix that.
also I had upgraded 4 of my offshore boards with the flag upgrade kits, I liked them so ordered 4 more to get the rest of them switched over.
will be replacing old crawler harnesses and making some new ones over the next couple weeks.
also will be dipping two deer skulls soon, all cleaned up , just need to let them dry a few days first. will post pics when finished.
Three? Awesome... I'm a celebrity. It is funny considering that my next post was the actual answer of one of the questions to help everyone out. People are idiots. And, these idiots get together and breed other idiots. It's a cycle that has been keeping Dr's, Lawyers, and crack dealers in business for centuries!
John,
I change my pads out every couple of years. I have a plethera (don't get to use that word often) of extra clips so I can usually go a couple of years simply by swapping to new clips. I keep a bag of new ones and a bag of old ones in the boat. Sometimes however, I get the bags mixed up.
OffShore went with a thicker gauge wire for their tattle flags last year. We actually tested the wire. Hopefully you get new packages with the newer wire and not the older packages that people still had in stock. I've got 5 heads to do this year. I use Oxi Clean powdered landry detergent in with my boil. Boil for 10 minutes and then wash with pressure washer. I then you 40% peroxide mixed with water (about 1 part peroxide for 3 parts water) and boil for 10 minutes. Take it out and hit it with the power washer again. White as can be.
I held out as long as I could before other things got in the way and I decided to pull all the fuel out of my boat and call it a year. I don't winterize anything. I change the fluids in the spring, the plugs, and fuel filter. I got in the habit a few years ago of removing the gas. Just a good habit that resulted in far less issues. I only run 93 octane fuel and usually have 25 gallons at any one time. Dad and I purchased an electric fuel pump from NAPA. He fashioned it to a polymar board, put an inline fuse in it and an on/off toggle switch. We connect one end to our auxilary fuel line (used for the kicker motor) and put the other end in to a 5 gallon can. I can usually pump a can full (when operating correctly) in a couple minutes. In the spring, I fill it up with fresh fuel on my first trip.
To say I am ready to ice fish would be a joke. I have not even looked at any of my gear. That being said, if anyone is interested in a 2 man Clam Nanuck (thermal model) with all the bells and whistles (along with travel cover) let me know. It sits in my barn collecting dust.
I've been contemplating a backhoe for a long time. Brian and I finally got serious and started looking. We ended up finding a John Deere 710B with full cab, 22 foot reach, and 18.5 foot dig depth. Basically the biggest backhoe you can buy. In the last year it has been cracked to add a new clutch, had a new front bucket hydro pump installed, and a couple of other things that basically amounted to what we paid for the unit. Purchased in Whitemore just East of Hale. Cost me over a grand just to have it shipped. We are currently in the process of going through and fixing all the little things. Jights not working, heater disconnected, stuck throttle. It is obvious to me that the people that owned it knew nothing about maintenance and, although the company they used to have service work done is a very big company, they suck when it comes to attention to detail. Example: you will lose 300-500 rpm if you utilize a nail instead of a correct sized cotter pin in the throttle assembly! OR, if you don't have it adjusted correctly, the maximum RPM you can rev the hand throttle to is 1300rpm INSTEAD of the operating speed of 2250 RPM! Of course, you just push the throttle pedal down and run it that way because it sticks. WHY does it stick? Because you have 2 inches of dirt under the pedal and a hose routed across the throttle body! OR, the fact that you have 60% play in the hand throttle. Nothing that a tap and die set didn't fix. It now operates at maximum RPM!
Oh, after 11 years and more deer than most professionals hunters, I have finally retired my old bow. It is still awesome but I'm getting older and needed something new. So, if anyone wants a good unit, I'll get you setup. She still has a few years left in her lims!
Been busy with RL (Real Life), not allot of online presence, besides, G needs a break.
Been rigging the boat, put on new Traxstech Tracks, 2 Five footers, and 4, Six inch tracks.
Have to head towards FishingCouple area tonight, as Alma College will wrestle in state rival Adrain tonight. Then head to Louisville Kentucky, Thursday night for the National Dual's
Here are photos of the boat project.

Well, you can see what I've been up to working with Steve. Just finished helping Sparty remodel my son's bathroom and now working on a flooring job with him. Wishin we would get some safe ice I could cut a few holes in.

BACK TO PLANER MAINT :)
Rich , I got the new flag kits yesterday and they are a MUCH heavier wire than my other flag kits, definite improvement.
Do you have an EASY way to remove the old pads on the red clips? I used a very small screwdriver to do a couple last night and it worked ok, just wondered if there was an easier way.
I think I posted this somewhere on here but it has been awhile.
Here is a link to a "how to" segment that I did a few years ago.
Planer board Maintenance | Michigan Sportsman - Online Michigan Hunting and Fishing Resource
The key take aways are that I sharpened the mini screw driver tip which greatly helped me remove and scrape excess glue. The other trick that was helpful was utilizing clamps to hold the clips open while I was working.
Hey john ive been using my small table vise to hold those clips open. And rich is correct about a very sharp flat tool to remove all glue, cause if not a flat surface when you glue new pads in they won’t make good contact on fishing line

Anyone remember the song by Paul Simon--Slip Slidin' Away? Hope all are safe! YouTube
Ok,
I'm back fro Kentucky to defend myself online.
1, I can NOT wear sandals or slippers at any time EVER, they slow me down when running from Becky, and I need every advantage I can get.
I carry a cigar, and a bandit, hidden on every trip should she appear, and I need to run from a sudden arrival of a Becky. If Jimmy is with me, I can throw down the cigar, and he will go after that cigar, get caught, and go all Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky, and I am FREE to catch my breath, and walk away slowly, and not be in any danger.
The Bandit works in the same scenario if I am fishing with Kevin. You can tell which Bandit it was, when fishing with him, as you can tell by grin on Kevin's face. Just look at Kevin, and ask *Kevin, is that the Becky Bandit?* then watch his reaction, that will tell you. any exclamation of denial, is a sure giveaway.
2. NO Speedo for me, that is for Steve Ash only.
If I were to wear one, I would make the news as the Sasquatch that someone killed at a camp, near the woods. (probably walking away form Jimmy & Kevin and Becky, after I throw down BOTH items for bait.) Another giveaway would bee the toothless beasts roaming aimlessly through every ones camp sites looking for the said Ginger in Banana colored Speedo. It would not be pretty..............

Going to the USS Arizona Memorial today and try to imagine the He// that broke lose that day though I’m sure it won’t come close to the real thing.
Local Charlotte man lost his life that morning but saved many others, he was posthumously (obviously) awarded the Medal of Honor.
