Anyone have any advice other than having a good warranty?
I have a Char-Griller Acorn and Love it. I smoked a brisket overnight on Christmas Eve. Began with the grill reading 225 and smoked 8 1/2 hours and the grill still read 225. Never fluctuated all night.

I love my BGE. I don't use it near as often as I should, but it does great every time I do.
I have the Visions pro model. Every bit as nice or nicer than the egg or Joe. Plus a bunch cheaper. Had mine 2 years and love it. Great thing is it comes with a lot of the accessories you have to buy extra with the others. Home Depot sells them and run pretty good sales at times.
Got a Visions from Sam Club a lot cheeper than the others. Works great
The Vision and the Pit Boss are very close in price. The Home depot close to me has a few of the Vision grills in stock
Are use a vision grill with lump charcoal for grilling in a pit boss pellet smoker for smoking that works out best for me
Pit Boss makes a kamado grill also. I have a Pit Boss pellet smoker already. I have hams and a turkey on it now cooking for tomorrow
Bought the Vison grill. Put it together, let it run at 300 degrees for a few hours, cooked two of the best pizzas I have eaten.
Was looking at a BGE for a Christmas present to the family and a xl model was 1500.00 with the "nest "and all the garb . Still looking .
I got the 24 inch Vision grill for 699. The BGE was more than I wanted to spend
Lowes has a "Komoto Joe" I have been looking at.
For the time being, I am still hanging with "Old Faithful".
I know a guy that swears by His home made version from an old Hot Water Heater Tank. 2 Cute little chimneys come up where the heating elements used to go in. Resourceful Guy right there.
If you are seriously looking then you need to check out the Kamado Joe, price it out completely then go to Home Depot and check out the visions, see what all you get with it and then compare the pricing. Think you will find the visisions a much better buy. I have looked at all of them over and over and wouldn’t trade my vision for any of them. Have been using mine for 2 years. Have a friend that had the BGE bought a visions to haul in his toy hauler for camping trips. After using it a few times gave the BGE away. The only accessory I had to buy was the ceramic diffuser plate which is worth the money in the long run. I use it every time unless I really want to sear a steak. I put it in after getting fire started and when smoking add 3-4 large chunks of pecan or apple then diffuser plate. I can crank temp down around 225-250 and it will hold for hours. Smoke butts, ribs, and chicken no problem. Crank that dude up and sear and cook a steak in about 15 minutes.
Dockshootinjack, if your interested KamadoJoe has a cool accessory I’m thinking about getting. It’s called a Joetissory. It is a heavy aluminum ring that fits on top of grill and formed where lid can close and seal. It has a rottissory motor and bar that fits into it to turn it into a rottissiory. My research says the large will fit right on the visions we have.

Been reading about the Joetissory and the knock offs. Roasted beef and chicken sounds good. I have a rack of ribs on now cooking
I have the Acorn Char-Grill as well. The metal lining that is on the inside is very thin and at the bottom rusted and no longer holds the bottom grate. We kept it cleaned and covered under our back porch and we are perplexed as to why it deteriorated so quickly (2.5 years).
I have had many grills rust out over the years. I have a pit boss pellet grill that is rusting on the diffuser baffle badly after a year. At this rate it will be rusted through in a year. I do grill/ smoke and cook a lot outdoors
I always heard it was the corrosive ingredients of most seasonings that cause much of the rust. I too have had many grills over the years and I consider myself extremely lucky to get more than three years out of any I have had. I do admit, I have never spent anywhere near the $$$$ that some of the newer smoker/grills cost. Perhaps if I smoked and grilled like some of you do... I'd seriously consider steppin' up to the nicer ones.
So far I do like the Vision Pro. I have used it almost daily since I got it. Great Pizza, awesome burgers, amazing ribs so far. Holds temps rock steady with no fuss. Attachment 363326
The more you use it the more our going to like it. Do yourself a favor and don’t use anything but lump charcoal in it. Keeps down the ash that will clog up your vent holes in the ceramic bowl. Lot cleaner that way and if you shut it down as soon as you finish a cook you will be surprised how little charcoal you use.
Thanks for the info, I will look at the Home Depot Visions.
As for rusting out issues, for years I have been using metal pans that fit the bottom of the grill well to keep the fire in, not thin aluminum foil pans or just foil, but good well made pans. Makes it easier to clean out, too. Aluminum is a plus, Walmart and others carry them, just know your dimensions. I have not had a grill to rust out in many years.
Just get your measurements for your grill, and a couple of inches or so high on the sides.
I only use Kingsford or Royal Oak Charcoal.
I have a large compressed air storage tank that I will turn into a pellet grill when the Pit Boss rusts out. The heavy wall tank should last a lifetime
I’ve had my bge for close to 15 years. Replaced a $20 gasket. Looking at the pics of the Vision , it’s not as thick as an egg. I have the xl. Yea it’s expensive, but barring an accident where the table collapses or something, it’ll last my lifetime.

I have had a kamado Joe for going on 4 years. I absolutely love it. I use it about 3 or 4 times a week year round hot or cold it doesn't matter. I have used the warranty twice so far. Both was my mistakes and they replaced with no questions asked. Warranty claim was quick turnaround both times less than 10 days from claim to new part arriving in mail. Im hoping to purchase another one soon for my lake house.
Sounds awesome
A key move that works for me is to use a substantial pan in the bottom for the charcoal. Aluminum foil or placing coals on the bottom does not get it. Aluminum or stainless pans sold for oven baking in the size needed work great for me. Sometimes they can be found at thrift stores and yard sales cheap, cheap.
I get many years out of my grills without worries of the bottom rusting out in just a few years.
