How should I handle

Since the fall colors changed here aka the license plate colors. Everytime I go out day or night. Days are a lot worse. About the time I get setup I either have a boat blast by me or they get close enough for me to cast into their boat. I have lived all over east of the Mississippi River and I know that boat laws and edict are about the same everywhere. I even had them come by my slip just below plane and when I say something, I get "I didn't know the small canal was no wake ". I am usually very forgiving and patient but in the last month my limits are being pushed. So what is the best way to handle the select few morons, without risking going to jail. Them over fishing the limits is a completely different rant. Attachment 361713

Step 1: get acquainted with the local "fish cops", wardens, rangers, whatever they are called (in GA DNR) who work that lake/area. Ask for their cell phone number.
Step 2: get goPro or other video cam, or if your cell has decent cam, record the offense. In GA it is no wake within 100 feet of anchored boat. Make sure you get the boat number or a pic of it.
Step 3: send to ranger in Step 1.
Step 4. repeat.

This will probably not change anything, but you will feel better about it. Then go get some spark plugs. :ThumbsUp

Be safe and prudent. I was a wildlife enforcement officer 30 years. Keep in mind this world is full of sorry men. And the majority of all men carry guns. Don't get killed over some fish. God Bless!!

The true test of good manners as my daddy taught me is the ability to put up with others bad manners .
but for sure and I agree whole heartedly its about flat out frustrating to try to ketch a fish peacefully on most public waters these days, even us bank anglers get a beating from boats in many cases . they run a creek I like making monster wakes and its a wildlife sanctuary no wake zone with tons of law enforcement boats writing tickets and it never ceases in the winter when the crappie go up in that creek .
so you see they don't even respect the law enforcement in there and rarely give a rat if you say something to them .so in synopsis I again say this about that , bite your tongue and let them go on their way and you will likely get over being upset long before you would if you lose your cool .

Maybe a fella need to make friends with a guy with a wake boat. Those things do a great job at making waves. . I am ashamed to say after I was washed into a dock I was shooting four times by some duck hunters buzzing me . I had had enough. Let them get their decoys all set and ready. I ran in close killed the throttle and turned and let it fall into the water. Gave them enough of a wake to not be real happy.

Unfortunately it's public waters and it seems the public cares less and less about doing the right thing.
The worst part is they teach their children to do the same.

Let’s keep it family friendly here on crappie.com please.

Fortunately it is public waters. If not I don't know where I would be able to fish.

I learned a valuable lesson from a old man one time. I was under a pier catching a tone of crappie and I look up and he rammed his boat right into where I was casting. I told him I was casting right where his boat was and he probably scared the fish away..... he said naw that both he and I would catch all the fish we wanted to and told me to go ahead and cast at his boat. I cast in front of his boat just like I had been doing and wham it was on and I and he caught all the fish we wanted to catch. Became good friends with him. Taught me that when you find the fish and they are biting it doesn't matter how close anybody gets.

It is frustrating when boats go by on plane and rock your boat when you are trying to fish. In most cases those individuals will get upset if you do the same thing to them. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it as an individual except yell at them. And that does entail a risk to you. But I admit I still yell at them when they come to close. In my younger days I did more than that but as it has been pointed out the best policy is to be safe.

When I fished the canals off the Rigolets in Slidell the game wardens there ran boat speed traps with radar in the canals on a regular basis. They would ticket anybody moving at more than five miles an hour through the canals. And even that did not stop people from speeding through the canals.

As in a lot of things Ben Franklin said it best.

I like some of the ideas and got a good laugh from some. At the end of the day as a Christian I will probably just continue to just deal with the disrespectful few and enjoy my night fishing when they go to bed after dark.

Times like this generate a lot of emotions within me. I try very hard to remember how I’m supposed to behave. I have trouble with double standards. Those that I’m forced to adhere to are blatantly ignored by others as they smile in your face and rub it in. I have a bird dog that loves to capitalize on my knowledge. Won’t talk, won’t leave, just follows my every move. I believe this year I’ll lead him to where no fish live and then sit there and look at him while he waits for me to do something.

Sheriff, just left from here 30 minutes ago. Got neighbor called unsaid one of my dogs growled ar her.

Had the Sheriff show up at the house a few years back. The local pill head that walks up and down the street said the Great Dane growled at her. When she showed the Sheriff where she was walking ( in my front yard ) the Sheriff apologized and left after instructing her where the public road was and explaining that she was on private property.

If that is close your welcome to come fish the lakes I fish in the spring. That boat would be way off around here. I've had many of a line caught by someone's prop. The easiest way to make friends is to throw out a marker, in 10 minutes you will have all kind of new friends fishing your marker.

That's the truth, that's actually considered well respected distance in MS. I've had them so close you would think they were going to hop in the boat any second. Especially when they see your poles bending. Makes me no difference I had them track beside me for miles before, steadily slinging them in and them nill, they tuck tail and run eventually. Some have the sense to strike up polite conversation and get a few suggestions. Public lakes are fair game, doesn't mean you can't practice common courtesy though I do agree. That's an antiquated idea now days for most though.

Some on one of my lakes in spring.

The photo is zoomed out to catch a broader view of the lake. The boat was close enough for me to cast into and make me listen to their conversation, just as bad as someone talking loud on their cellphone in a restaurant. Not to mention that they came blasting in with the fog thick and caused enough wake that I had to hold on.

In today’s world you never know if someone might pull a gun and pop a cap at me and my wife, if they are on drugs, and the list for reasons goes on. I usually just raise my hands with no gestures. I enjoy my boat, love my wife and my time on God’s kingdom on earth too much to even let what others do make me lose my mind and do something I might regret. I just follow the laws, err on the side of caution, and enjoy chasing slabs.

Very true. We live in a much different world today. I’ve bit my lip many times to make myself keep quiet. Sometimes I beat myself up afterwards because I feel like a wimp. I carry protection 100% of the time, and that comes with the responsibility to avoid confrontation. Regardless of the blow to my manhood.

Always be polite, regardless of the offense, and never let them ruin YOUR day.

One thing... always keep your rods low when catching, to prevent the "bent rod sonar" guys from zooming in on your fishing. When they come by, let your hands fall slack, and look dejected. Even better, ask if THEY know of any good spots, ha ha. If you are a good actor, it's amazing how many will run the other way from the pathetic guy. Then go right back to your catching.

I avoid conflict on the water even when some jerk gets close enough to mark the spot I’m currently fishing. It’s happened a couple times this season. I’ll just fish until they stop biting there and go to another spot I have marked. It’s a public lake. Fish it that way.

I have a bud that is a fish slayer . he was guiding a trip Saturday and a boat rolled up to him and his client on a dock and started pitching under the dock they were already on .
now to be sure he had a few words for them and they moved on ,but in the end it isn't his dock or his water .
I am of the opinion he was somewhat right on his go find your own dock .
But I am also as sure if the law got involved he would have been the bad guy .
its a fine line out there to be sure

with todays technology they can mark your spot easily at quite a distance . this much I know as I have seen it done personally .
they don't have to get terribly close to do it for sure . the good news is there are lots of fish and lots of water and like you I will fish it till the bite quits and then its yours :Rofl

Another trick is to only use clear water bottles as markers, instead of the orange ones. Your FF will tell you the depth, so make is a couple of feet longer than needed. My arm-span is about 6', so in 15' of water, I'll pull off three arm-lengths, tie it around the bottle and let it fly. No one seems to notice the clear bottles, unless they are watching you very carefully.

Can you tell we have very crowded waters around here?

ET, that is my exact opinion. I also carry 24/7 because of the times we now live in. But I avoid the confrontation at all costs . My faith in God lets me know that he will handle the wrong doers.

So keep rod tips in the water when catching, keep discouraged look on face when others come near, keep clear bottles on board to use as markers, and hold your reel upside down and reel backwards to complete the effect. This should keep away all but the most determined
