Waiting on some hard water to get out on. Anyone else wanting to get out ice fishing ? I know a few of the guys up North enjoy it. Not looking for any honey holes but would love to meet some new friends. I have all of my own gear.

Anticipating ice, too.
nope hoping for some 50/55 deg days to get boat back out:)
Easy peasy to build a stainless steel v’d front cutter for breaking ice to fish with da boat! :Rofl Or better yet, alittle C4 or Dinomite goes a long way! :biggrin
It's a shame this weather isn't gonna hold. I have been locked up here at the ranch since Tuesday.
55 first of the week and Christmas Day. Need to get out myself and test the new Mega 360.

WOW! As I planned on Lemon Thursday. I went over to West Boggs today, 10-12 boats on the water and tried to get my new Mega 360 to work to set up and dial in and nothing but problems as for over 3 hrs, floated on the lake checking every imaginable angle out with 2 different idiot screens popping up telling me to retract it or place in the water when it was in the water. Got back home and checked out power to all connections with dang power probes. Had boat all tore up again, even reset all default settings on all helix units messing those settings up again. Fiannly got on bbc forum, contacted Wayne, the Humminbird guru, and after explaining it all to him, only thing he could think of was to clean the 2 itty bitty wet water probes on top of the puck off, they turn it on and off as you place it into water. so I took dawn dish soap and a clean bucket of water out, washed them off, stuck the Mega 360 in a 5 gal bucket of water and it worked like a charm. Will spend tomoorow putting boat back together and working on re setting everything again and find some water Thursday to play with the new Mega 360, but won’t go to Lemon.
29 degrees for a low at Bloomington now. If ice was that thick at Lemon, bet it still is this morning as the launch is pretty hidden from sunlight during the day.
Looks to be like no fishable ice in my area until mid January.
Dang sorry for the trouble! Looking forward to the Mega 360 pics though.

Well starting tonight we are gonna be making some ice. That's the good news. The bad news is highs in the 40's return the end of next week. If we can just get a 1-2" base to work with...could have some fishable ice in a week or so.
Weather can’t make up its mind what the heck to do!
It was a balmy 5 when I woke up this morning. Wind howling around 20-25 mph. But my "local" hot spot is locked up. Now if that snow will just stay off it later today. I will probably be probing around come Wednesday morning.
I bet u will be able to find safe Ice somewhere as it’s even ripping cold down south here with lite snow off lake Mich. this far south.
Well, the season is over. Pitiful for ice in my neck of the woods for about the 4th or 5th year in a row. Walleye fishing on Erie anyone?
I clean my transducer with dish soap to keep any scum off it. This helps with the signals too.
How big of a boat do ya need to fish up there close to shore?

How big a b@#*$ ya wearin? I used to use a Nat. Team Skeeter Bass Boat that was 16.5 ft with a 150 merc on it,then a 18’ Skeeter bass boat but I had 2 of the largest bilge pumps installed, marine radio, And loran C, and couple of removable downriggers on it. Nothing to run a few miles out chasing walleyes, smallmouth, and in Lake Michigan all species of salmon. Just had to watch the weather and outrun the storms. :Rofl We also wore chest waders and rain coats to weather the spray and waves. rotfl
This is my rig I always wanted to go up and fis for them in Puttin bay. Attachment 367980

Most dangerous part of launching and fishing the Great Lakes is where your launching from. If it’s a harbor, the break waters at the mouth of the harbor entrances has wave chop coming from all directions no matter what the wind direction is and can make it rough as hell. If out in the Great Lakes, make sure you have your map program on to follow tracks back to a harbor, as fog or light rain will diminish your ability to see land or a harbor entrance making you totally blind and having to rely on your gps working with your map tracks to find your way back. Have a really good weather radio also, and keep your life jackets on especially your first times out. Big water can be intimidating especially in a small water craft, as you will not be used to it.
I had one on my customers 1 time had me put a new water pump in his pontoon boat he took up to Lake Erie to walleye fish He told me he went all the way into Canada. It thought he was nuts. He launched from ohio.

When the water is calm, it’s like any other lake. I have been on every Great Lake fishing as switched to a 26’ cuddy cabin Mark Twain cruiser I rigged out with downriggers, outriggers, radar, loran c, Marine radio, and electronics chasing fish back in the 80’s and early 90’s. Thank god gas was cheap as boat held 66 gal. And my ford dullie 460 4 speed truck took 50 gal. I wouldn’t want to spend the money on gas that I did each weekend back then. Another tidbit using a low profile boat is, the water is cold, have extra change of clothing in a dry bag to avoid hypothermia even in 80 degree heat.
