Santee Upper lake TAW CAW CREEK

Any tips on the crappie would be very helpful. We are going down this weekend and will be putting in at taw caw creek. Thanks

Good news, bad news. The crappie fishing has been fantastic on both big lakes. Unfortunately, you couldn’t of picked a worst weekend to go. Cold, windy weather is forecast all week throughout next weekend. As they say, you should of been their last week. Sorry to say, but I’d recommend canceling the trip.

I saw the wind is going to pick up. I was hoping to be able to fish in the creek and stay out of it if possible. Are the fish still on brush out in the main lake or have they started moving in to the big creek channels

Just something for you to think about......ever seen a 10 mph wind on the Santee lakes?!? Aint anywhere I wanna be. Good luck if you guys go and stay safe!

Something I just thought about.....don't know if anything's biting there but Jacks Creek might be a safer trip fishing in the trees.

Slab's going to be there at a writer's conference if I read his comment correctly. I think they stay down the lake a good ways. Ink probably knows where.
Not sure Ed will poke his nose out though. He's been in Florida long enough that his blood has gotten thinner. :Rofl

Yes gabowman 10 mph wind is tough on santee. I was hoping to try and stay in the creeks. We catfish down there all the time. We have decided to just go down and clean the yard up some and just hang out for the weekend. I am really wanting to try and start doing more crappie fishing than cat fishing down there.

Like you, I would LOVE to go to Santee to crappie fish. Always see those coolers of slabs from the guys that fish there and get reports every year about those fish. My only problem is it's a 4 hr minimum drive for me and there's such good fishing within an hour so I haven't went to Santee....yet! But I hope to one of these days. In my younger years we took off like it was in the next town sometimes going every other weekend to catch catfish. Things were cheaper then and I could take those longer road trips a bit better than I can now too.;):) Maybe theyre wrong and the wind lays. Good luck to ya.:)

I fished Sunday. Most of the fish I caught where still on brush in the 20 to 25 feet range. Water temp still in the low 60s

Any tips, well, stay out of the wind. And if you do go fish in the wind, be careful, wear life jacket. And side image to locate the Crappie. They are there in many places, but still hard to get them to bite. We were successful with Rockport Rattler jigs (noise maker jigs), tipped with minners and a little color, we used sliders (any bright color, did not seem to matter which).

Looks like you had a good day Sunday Bean2302. We went down for the weekend and just messed around and watch ball games. The wind did blow hard Saturday and rain. I hope to be back the weekend after Thanksgiving. Bean2302 what area of the lake did you go to Sunday if you don't mind me asking.
