So,before I make the actual announcement, I have to explain why I'm announcing this so early. Usually we do it shortly after Thanksgiving. This time, I ordered the trophy early, and I provided them an expected delivery date (which they did acknowledge). And then all the sudden I get a tracking info from them, OH NO!
Anyway,sooner is better. It'll give everyone something to talk about over Thanksgiving.
Drum roll please...
We had many nominations, some of which were a tad late to the process (which will be considered next year). But one of them rose to the surface. One of them stood out.
He is a legend on the Mechanics Forum, an Ex-Navy service member, extremely helpful across all the forums and even a great fisherman. I think many of you know who he is......

Charlie Weaver, aka Cray, is the 2019 Crappie.com Man of the Year. He has exemplified all the attributes of the award for many years, some of which are documented in the following comments about the man.
"His mechanical knowledge is fantastic. He shares a ton of info as moderator on the Mechanics Forum. Many times he even looks up part numbers and schematics etc. for folks. "
"Cray is all over the boards answering questions on fishing, boat rigging, and many other things. He is always willing to help others. Cray not only goes to the MS crappie camps, he attends others out of state. At some he has set up fly and jig tying sessions where five or 6 people at a time gather around him as he puts a jig head in the vice and shows step by step how to tie one. "

He has also been helpful getting new members that make and sell products set up as a member sponsor. "Been seeing him help people on different boards for many years and although I have never met Cray I do feel like I know him. "
"I can't think of anyone more deserving of the JMMA. "

Congratulations Charlie. A well deserved recognition for all you do for all of us.
Many times Charlie has come to my rescue. Once upon a time, I visited the BPS store outside of Memphis. While trashin around in there, I think it was by the tying stuff, I got to talking with a gent that was looking over some stuff like he couldn’t make up his mind. It was Charlie, and I had the big truck in the parking lot. I stayed twice as long as I had time for but enjoyed his company so much that I really didn’t want to leave. This was the only time we have met face to face, but I feel as I have known him for a long time. Hopefully one day we’ll see each other again, I sure enjoy our conversations. I would tell you that you did a good job to be recognized but that’s not the case.he does it without any effort, just being himself. Proud to call you friend mister.

I don’t even know where to start. I was completely floored when that award arrived in the mail yesterday. Took me a bit to process what I had in my hand. I never thought in my wildest dreams I would be selected for this honor. And it truly is a honor to be lumped in with the prior recipients of this award who I consider the true pioneers of this site when it was a fledgling start up. Thank you Slab for creating this site and this award in honor of your father. To be selected to receive something that I know is dear to your heart is more of an honor than I can describe. And thank you to all the committee members who voted to select me. I truly don’t feel I deserve it but do appreciate it. I do what I do to help on the site because it is fulfilling to help others. I have made more true friends off this site than I have in my life time. The good lord gave me a blessing of mechanical aptitude and an understanding of research. I do what I do not for any kind of recognition but for the satisfaction that I was able hopefully to help someone else solve a problem and in the process teach them something also. I wish there was a way I could shake each and everyone of your hands but since that’s not possible I’ll just say thank you and hopefully one day. Skeetbum (Tim) is right. We meet a few years ago at local BPS not to long after I had joined CDC. We became friends right there in the fly tying section. And even though he has moved around we still talk about once a month or so if nothing more to see how each other are doing. And all the others I have meet at camps around the country. Guys that I would have never meet any other way. And a vast number have become true friends in the process. Once again I would like to thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart for the congratulations.
