Short afternoon trip for dinner 102919
My wonderful wife told me about noon that she wanted some fresh fish for dinner tonight, so I didn’t need much encouraging and off I went. Hit the water at 1 pm and stopped at 3:30 with dinner. I kept 2 crappie that were 11” and one 7 lb Blue catfish. That was a tussle on 4 lb test line, but patience is a virtue when doing battle with a big cat.
I got the crappie off shore brush on a drop and the catfish came out from under a dock. It was a miracle that it didn’t try to wrap around the many wooden posts that is under the dock. I put as much pressure as I could stand in an effort to turn him away from the posts and finally was able to lead him out to open water for the end of the 10 minute fight. It was just barely hooked in the corner of the mouth. I’m soaking it in buttermilk and will put a Panko crust on it and pan fry.
Chickamauga lake is almost 1/2 way between summer and winter level and the lake is dropping fast. That made the crappie get lockjaw nearly. 43,900 cfs and surface temp 69.8 at Wolftever bridge area.
I don’t know what is going on with this site or if it is my IPad but it took me about 10 try’s before it uploaded the catfish pic and I never could get the crappie pic to upload. I need to reboot by IPad I guess.
