One of the better reasons to fish carlyle lake in Southern Il.
This fish weighed 1 lb 14oz and was 15 and 3/4 inches long. Not bad from a lake that the fish average is 10-12 inches.

SURE ENOUGH A GOOD FISH :) :)
must have been a good fish to pull out of the water with a set of antlers like that.
hehe got me there.......
he did feel like a frickin log comin out of the water.
nice job employee of the month lol
I fish Carlyle alot and I know alot of the guys on the forums say that is not one of the better lakes in the area. I have caught more big crappie at carlyle then I do at any other lake. Maybe the old stigma of it not being a good crappie lake is gone since it has had a population boost over the last few years. This year I have very rarely caught short fish.
Have you been there lately?
Is the crappie scattered at Carlyle?
heading out this today and the weekend. Fish were shallow last sunday I got 7 most around 12inches this rain may have them messed up but hopefully not. As far as being scattered I guess its a matter of opinion. I know some guys that swear they are I dont seem to think so. I can usually catch a limit in one spot. Some days it 20 min others it takes alot longer. Not the fish should be in the flooded timber and along the rocks. last week they were full of eggs but I still think they are about a week from spawning

As far as carlyle not being a crappie lake....i would like to dispell that rumor. I have been crappie fishing religiously for over 13 years and if i want a good mess of fish there are two lakes that i go to: Rend Lake and Carlyle Lake. Rend is revered as the premier crappie lake in Illinois but rend offers very little if any real good bank fishing for crappie. Carlyle on the other hand is a good source of fishing when fishing from the bank. I think most of the real negativity that surrounds crappie fishing on carlyle lake comes from the last 3 years when there was a BIG year class of 9.75 inch fish. Now all of those fish have moved up and the fishing is prime this year.
I have not really caught any "line burners" this year and thats a good sign. As far as them being scattered i think this is false cause simply there are quite a few potions of the lake that produce crappie all year long. So to say they are scattered is kind of a angler to angler thing. A lot of times I have been somewhere like south shore and was the only person catching them. So who knows.
Kendall I agree 100% about carlyle being a great crappie lake. Now Rend on the other hand I do not care for much. Granted I havent fished it much however
