I was still tinkering with my perch lure concept and decided to put a red belly on them for no reason at all. Just curious to your reactions.

EXCELLENT
Looks great to me.
They look fantastic Mike.
They look Great to me.
Great looking baits! You need to get them in the water as soon as you can
I like a little red on a bait. They look awesome
I am using Bait Plastics coloring as well as their plastic. The color is florescent green. The eye as well as black striping in done using a very thin and very permanent "Sharpie." The red belly is also done by a waterproof and permanent medium point sharpie. The colors do not rub off and look fantastic when immersed in water. I plan on using these on a "Drop shot" technique if my health ever permits me to get to the water.
Mike
They should work well. One of those State record Alabama crappie waiting for you to drop one in front of them
Let us know what the fish think
really nice mike, those are gonna lay the crappies to waste!
His arms are too sore from catching all those fish to type anything
Nice contrasts - should provoke some big bites even in cloudy water !
Sharpie ink won't fade or bleed ?
Sure it wasn't a sunfish? rotflQuote:
In my dream the 6.5 pound crappie was caught on my liberated perch lure.
Thanks for the info and I too sincerely hope your lady is fit and healthy in no time.
This photo shows how it has held it's color after 96 hours of continuously underwater.

Thanks for posting the picture which shows color bleed and which will get worse within a week. Spike-It sells a paint that is applied to the plastic's surface in a thin surface layer and can not bleed. It dries fast and can't come off.
Spike-It dye on the other hand does bleed as well as fade and a bright chartreuse lure after dipping will dull if black or other dark color is applied to one side for example. I apply dark colors to the tips of highly textured lures and don't have to worry about bleed. Note the bottom swimbait:

Still the same after 1 month. Now I wish it could only catch a fish....
I have tried the "Spike it" dye and you cannot control the dye or effects due to bleeding. I will check out "Spike it" paint and see if I can replicate and duplicate the effects I want. Having said all that, the marker technique is good for a day's fishing. Just be sure you have let it dry about five minutes before inserting in the water. Since I have the molds, I just found it easier to make up ten lures whenever I want to go fishing. I appreciate the heads up on the Spike It paint. I looked at Bass Pro shop and Cabella's and the only paint I saw from Spike it was chartreuse or orange. I am looking for Blood and black. Do they make it in those colors?

I found the colors I need at Tackle Warehouse. Here is a link in case others are interested. Spike It Worm & Chunk Paint - Tackle Warehouse
The paint has to be shipped by ground transport as it cannot be shipped by air. So I will have to wait about six or seven days before trying out my new toys. It will arrive about this time next week. Stay tuned folks. The best is yet to come with the "Re-Liberated" perch. It is wonderful when a concept idea comes to its fullest fruition. Thanks Spoonminnow.
Thanks again.
Mike
Mike you can order that stuff directly from Spike it
...what snake River said and for color variety.
those rock ship!!
Well done Brother Mike. You are quite the intrepid inventor... I must say.
Prayers for your wife and you my brother... and the rest of the family too.
Look out world record
My worm and chunk paint from Spike it came in the mail today. What a difference it makes .My liberated lures really pop now. Thanks for letting me know about that paint. I bought some really fine paint brushes to do all the detail work.

Good Going ! Having the right materials to work with aid in an unlimited imagination when it comes to lurecraft. Nice to know that
no one except you has lures you made or modified and caught fish on. It really is a hobby in of itself.
Spoonminnow, You hit the nail on the head when you said "Having the right materials to work with aid in an unlimited imagination"...........That is me my friend. When it comes to lurecraft and fishing I am always dreaming of the next challenge. God said "Brains" and I thought He said "Trains" so I was standing in the wrong line and I missed them both. I found out I was in the lovetofishforcrappieline and I never looked back. I am thankful to all of my friends here on crappie dot com for all of their helpful advice over these last 14 years. As my 1st official random act of kindness I want to mention a few who have been especially helpful to me on this site: Slab, Spoonminnow, "G", Snake River, Special K, H2oHammer, JamesDean, Skiptomylu, Skeetbum, Chaunc, CrappiePappy, Mr. Crappie, DB4D and Richard Gene the fishing machine. There are so many more that I could name but If I did not mention YOUR NAME charge it to my head and not to my heart.

Ship, you have a way with words that warms the heart and like you fully appreciate the contributions on c.com. Few other forums have the participation or those willing to compare notes and let bias take a back seat to open minded discussion, possibilities and most important - wonder.
Let's see some pictures with the paint on them!!

Wow that’s super Bright Mike.
That photo was taken in the rain Bob. Just wait until you see sunshine on them. The "Re-Liberated Perch" is awesome. All I can say is "Oh my God!" Why did it take so long for someone to tell me about Worm and Chunk paint. I have a supply of very fine oil paint brushes from when I got into oil painting. I saw many of Special K's artistic drawings of crappie. I am going to try and do artistic drawings on some crappie lures. Seems like a whole new world of creative thoughts is going through my head. There will be a 6.5 crappie who sees one of them and says ...."Let me open my mouth and eat that baby." Then Old Ship is gonna say "Gotchhhhhhhhhhha!" LMBO :Rofl:Rofl:Rofl:Rofl
I love your logo that says "Number One Site For Crappie Baits." Right on for the right on my brother.

Suggestions based on years of experimenting with colors, a knowledge of fish vision underwater and hundreds of fish caught:
Clear plastic works

Many believe that lure color must represent this or that prey animal, but over 25 years ago I fished clear plastic crankbaits and Zara Spooks and caught bass. The above injection molded curl-tail did well catching crappie and bass. The water was the usual algae green but fish had no problem targeting it same for the mini-stick on the right.
Note: On the tail is fine glitter. Other than color, a bit of flash or sparkle gets a fish's attention - FAST - and begins the excitation process leading to a strike. It doesn't take much to be instantly noticed. Fine craft glitter is sold everywhere and Mend-It glue for soft plastics is easy to brush on followed by pressing the lure on to a bit of glitter sprinkled on a paper plate. Super Glue may work.
Using your colors but leaving clear plastic areas and considering the use of a small bit of glitter, may enhance your lure's shape and action part. Beetle Spins and Mepps have been catching fish for a half century mostly due to bright flashing blades, but subtle flash and coloration does as well if not better at times than stark contrast. As I've proven to myself over the years - a little does go a long way.
There you have it: a range of appearances for fish to chew on.
Great colors, I always try to add a little red to all my baits.
