I have allways dragged my jigs behind my boat trolling around 1mph so when i got a partner he was saying i should spyder rig out the front of the boat which i have tryed for last few months and ill tell ya its not working near as good as the back of the boat .i dont understand if its something i am doing wrong or what i even put them at different depths from 3 to 7 ft .and we just get bit by trolling jigs out the back of boat .

how long are your rods, might be trolling motor too noisey at that speed with jigs up front.
14ft rods i am using one ounce weights with a foot or longer leader. i have a minn kota terrova for trolling motor.and troll around 1mph which i thought was fast for spyder rigging but they do it down in fl i am just not having luck myself out the frontQuote:

We spider rig with the lightest sinkers the weather or
conditions allow. As in waves. Wind etc. I try and use 1/2oz in perfect calm water and 3/4 oz in windy heavier boat traffic days. I only go 1oz in extreme conditions. We go .2-.6 mph usually spider rigging. Those guys going out the front goin 1 mph or faster are probably pushing jigs. That’s a whole other presentation and set up.
Lighten the load on the rod. Focus on working into the wind. Don't wait for the fish to bow the rod.... Catch the bite. When you think you are going too slow.... Slow down.

Check out YouTube! I know Ed duke the maker of southern crappie rods has some really good videos on spider rigging! Me personally i run 3/4 oz 75% of the time and run between.3-.8 mph

Generally speaking ... if your baits are being pulled from the back of the boat (with added weights) .... you're Pulling. If your baits are being pulled along with your rods out the front (with added weights) ... you're Pushing. If your rods are out the front & you're going <0.5mph ... you're Spider Rigging. If your rods have no added weight on the line & just your baits ... you're Longline Trolling. :twocents
You might want to lengthen your leaders to about 3' long. If you're Pushing at 1mph w/1oz weights, and that's the same weights & speed you use when Pulling out the back of the boat ... there should be no difference (as long as the rod tips are the same distance from the water's surface, your baits should be at the same depths in either case). The biggest factors in Pushing, over normal Longline Trolling (no added weights), is that you have less line out to achieve the same depths, and you can make sharper/quicker turns.
so basically we pulling 1.16 jigs out the back and you need to get around 1mph for that and i use 1 ounce weights on my front spyder rigging up front pushing now i was just told i need to tip my jigs with minnows up front which i haven't done i was just using artificial but i am gonna try minnows fri see if that helps we have no problem catching them on artificial trolling out of the back with no weights just 1.16 jigs

I have done both also, and tried a lot of what has been mentioned. My internal motor runs too quick for spider rigging as it moves at a half mph and sometimes less. I caught fish with it but the unproductive periods had my OCD driving me nuts. I cover more water trolling out the back and catch a good amount of fish. I have began using a 3 way swivel and a 1/2 oz weight to shorten some of the lines, 3’ leader. It does allow a faster turn and when the fish are in a small area it keeps me in more productive water. My rod holders are out the sides and out the back, but my back ones are longline with jigs only. I don’t use minnows at all.

I only tip jigs with minners when water is below 57 degrees and fishing deep but that just what works for me.
When I find fish on graph I just keep circling them keeping bait in front of them longer. Yesterday fish was everywhere I tried from 12-30 fow they were always mid way in water column.

If you’re going to go at 1.0, try putting Road Runners tipped with minnows on your rigs or go with straight minnows. We filled two limits two weeks ago pushing minnows at about .9. You might need to lighten up the weight and slow down. Just keep changing it up until you find the right formula for the day.
If it ain't broke why fix it? lol Sometimes I troll from the side if I have another person in the boat. I use a 14', 10', and a 6' rod out the side and all is good. Other person fishing directly behind the boat.
