I can tell you that all docks r not created equal. There r a lot of different reasons crappie will hold under docks, structure, shade, drop offs , bait, current, spawn. This time of year I fish docks that have structure with a drop off , ledge, under it or just in front of the dock. I use 1/32, 1/24,1/16 ounce jig heads depending on the situation at hand, mostly the wind will determine what size I’m shooting. I use mostly 2pound test when shooting but will shoot with 4 if the wind is catching my 2 lb line and has it blowing sideways. My main key tip is to always keep an eye on your line on the fall, this is when most of your hits will come and you won’t always fell the thump but you can see the tick of the line or the stop of the fall, game on.

The docks that are hardest to shoot under seem to hold the best fish:biggrin. Shot one a few years ago that was skirted with cattle panels.
Will 10/2 braid work or is this a mono only technique?
Not trying to hijack thread at all.
I've just got the itch to get out there now.
I have use fireline before. It's not bad

That lake is pretty good for dock fishing. Scan the docks first, ride really close to them and you should see the fish on deeper docks

I haven't fished with Cowboy, but I have fished with Glenn. Glenn has fished with Cowboy and said he's really good at catching fish shooting docks. I've seen first hand that Glenn is really good at catching fish shooting docks. "Really good" is really not the correct term to use I suppose. I've fished with Glenn twice and I basically just watched him catch fish the whole time on both trips. :) Glenn is the best single pole crappie fisherman that I've ever been in the boat with. He says Cowboy is a great fisherman too and if Glenn said it, I believe it.
I said that to say this.... Whatever these two tell you about shooting docks, file that away in the "FACT" file, not the "opinion" file in your brain.
I can't find many good docks on my home lake to practice on. It's hard to get better when you can't practice. I'm gonna start making some short road trips SE to get to better dock shooting lakes.
I guess I'll jump in here. I've fished with both Glenn and Cowboy shooting docks. They are both experts at this technique. My experience is that different docks will hold fish at different times as fish move up and down ledges, in and out of current to feed, and in and out of shade for protection. Side scan is your friend!! You'll shoot a lot to find the few good ones on any particular day.
Me and my son are headed right now not really good at reading my side scan but I will give it the best shot I can this will definitely be a learning experience for both of us got to stop by the store and buy some smaller jigs all I usually fish is 1/8 ounce

when the water temps drop into the 60's the dock shooting heats up . fish every dock you can !! 3 fow to 20 fow . one dock will be loaded and the one right beside it nothing . who knows why !! I like the older docks. they have more algae which draws more bait . a slow retrieve Is best for me trying at different depths . also let fall to bottom and bring back slow with a pause about every 2 or 3 cranks . good luck !!
