To all, I'm going to put my boat up for sale. I'd like to get some of the dullness, oxidation cleaned up on the sides of the 16' aluminum boat I have before putting it up for sale. Hopefully, even be able to put a 'shine' on it. Any suggestions for what I need to use and how to use it would be helpful. Hopefully, I can find something I can use by hand instead of a grinder/buffer to get it shined up.
I’ve always used never dull polish on aluminum rims. Don’t know why it wouldn’t work for that. You can get it at auto zone. Good luck on the sell

Star Brite makes an aluminum cleaner and aluminum polish specifically for what you are wanting to do, 3M and Meguair's do too.
Lots of home remedies and such out there with strong acids, but products like the Star Brite, 3M, and Meguiar's that are specific to your application are a little less dangerous and include some added protective ingredients/corrosion inhibitors.

To all, many thanks for the info you've all provided, I knew some of you would help. Will look at all the suggestions, but man, (Bluegillhunter, your post), that boat looks like brand new using the Duragloss 851. I researched for local distributors and it said Advanced Auto parts had this stuff locally, but, as usual, they were Out of Stock. Guess Amazon is ALWAYS the way to go. We got 'Prime' so, no shipping charges. Will get a couple bottles of this stuff and hope it works as advertised.( Just spray it on, wash it off)

BluegillHunter, I got the Durogloss 851 and tried in on one spot on my boat. Man, it cleans down to the BARE aluminum. Concerns me, because my boat (I think) had a polished surface and the area I cleaned (and it DID clean down to the bare aluminum) looks different from the adjacent area.(the cleaned area is more dull, but no oxidation, scuff marks) So, if I used this stuff, I'd probably have to go back and put in some time to polish or add a coating to get it shined back up. But, all I can say, this stuff cleans down to the bare aluminum with little or no effort, (Spray on, wait a couple minutes and wash off).
Same here, makes me think there should be some kind of protectant over it. Does anyone use wax or something over this cleaned aluminum.Quote:

Just a suggestion. There is a place in georgetown that cleans aluminum trailers. Had my 16 foot aluminum cleaned. This place was very cheap and my trailer looked new. Cant remember the name but sure someone knows name of this business. Seems like it was american trailer wash but don't remember for sure.
dwightparks, thanks, I will check this out. The spot I cleaned with this stuff looks bad now unless I can get it shined back up. Looks like I had an Acid spill on the surface.

Mr Clean magic eraser does a great job getting the water scum off. I use them on my Bass Tracker.

I use Star brite to clean my aluminum boat. I love how it’s designed for easy application because of its sprayer. I’m not a fan of cheap products as most of them can’t achieve what I want. With this cleaner, I don’t have to worry about mixture ratio and dilution.

The aluminum once cleaned won't last very long unless you put a clearcoat finish over it.
There are ones made just for aluminum boats.
