Vermiculture

I copied and pasted that to appear smart.

Basically I want a worm bed. Better than a bucket full of worms. Read and watched videos and think they make it more complex than need be. But I could be wrong.

Here’s what my container will be. Junkyard mini fridge with components cut out.

It’s 16” deep for 20” portion, then 9” for the remainder of the 8”

I know I can’t be the only one tired of buying or digging worms on short notice, so thought I’d ask for a quick run down of anyone has the experience.
Any input would be appreciated.

Your hair jigs look good enough for me. Or get ya a pack tubes.

There is a wealth of knowledge in the Live Bait section of this forum. Anything you want to know about the type of soil, food and how moist to keep the soil. I have neglected mine and there is more worms than I can use.

Keep having kids and you'll be told old of me. :) I'll have to tell you the story of bass fishing with my boys using 4" plastic worms on a zebco spin cast one day.

I have tried twice -- Fire ants both times ... The second time the ants just built a mound inside the old chest freezer

Many years ago when I was a kid, my dad got this old drink box that stores used to ice down bottle drinks..it was about 2 ft x 3 ft and 18" deep....it had 4 legs....nothing complicated, just dirt, add some red wigglers, keep a wet croaker sack on top, and the lid of the box on it to keep it out of the sun...every now and then throw some corn meal or coffee grids on top of the dirt...the key is keeping it moist...for your box, I would raise it off the ground....we never had a problem with ants that I can remember....guess you could spray around the bottom on the outside...good luck with it...

Best method for keeping out ants i know of is to create oil reservoirs around anything that touches the ground... For example, build on top of a wood platform with metal pipe for legs (any legs will work, really). Fit each leg with inverted tin cones, using caulk or tar paper to make the reservoir water tight. Pour motor oil into each leg's "moat" and keep it topped off.

My grandfather used to run gum machines and that was the only way to keep ants out of the candy in his shop.
