Problem with big bass @ LP 08 20 19

Caught a lot of CNBGS in the 9" and 10" range this morning between 17 and 27 FOW. Watched a BIG bass follow an Auto jig - wouldn't commit - probably a good thing. Little bit later had a bigger bass try to attack a hooked 9" fish (pic 6). Bass were getting bigger (~10lbs) and had one inhale an 8" fish (pic 10), had him on for about a minute before he spit the CNBG. And one more encounter - pics 11, 12, and 13 was the fish it was trying to eat. The bass were very aggressive - wouldn't turn away even when I stomped on the deck - too crazy. This is one of the reasons I tell people to fish bass areas if they want to find the larger Bluegill in the lake.....

Those are some very nice gills !

Gills that size getting war wounds, crazy. I have that happen quite often but with 5-6in Gills.

He does look a little scruffy after his encounter. Nice fish as always. I had a similar encounter with a very large bass and a seven inch crappie once. He wouldn’t take no for an answer for a little while. I agree with ya, big bass and a light rod is a bit sketchy.

what makes you decide on using a plain jig vs using one with the blade thanks rich

Rich - usually I start off with one of each - let the fish decide. Most of the time I use Colorado blades in deeper water and Willow blades in shallow or weedy water.

Had 4 encounters today Matt. 1st was a bass trying to chase down an Auto. 2nd tried to get a CNBG, 3rd ate a hooked CNBG, and the 4th was trying to eat another CNBG. I've caught bass before when they eat a hooked fish - but today was not normal. The last 3 bass were double digit bass. The one that ate the CNBG was well over 10lbs - the one in the pic was over 10 also.

This is the kind of the problem I want to encounter myself. Next time take me and your problems might gone away.
