Chenille body
Marabou tail
1/64 or 1/32 head
#8 or #6 hook
Solid black is a killer.
Attachment 351323These lures range from 1/48 to 1/16 once. Hook size is # 10 to # 6.
Those are some leggy little critters.
RLS40, those look like they might be illegal in Minnesota waters. You should send them immediately down here to Skeetbum and I before you get yourself into a predicament.
Great looking box!!!
My Bluegill favorite is a fly that has about 4 or 5 wraps of led wire around the shank under the chenille. Called a Bream Killer and can have a tail or not. Actual recipe legs are White, but I did some different for kicks. Still will send the email we have talked about. Think a #10 hook.

How do those cast?
Just curious if he used a fly rod or added some split shot, etc. Have cast dry flies before with a spinning rod using the clear floats.
Or as you said tie on a jig hook...
Skip said in his post that it has 4 or 5 wraps of lead wire under the chenille. That said, they would still be a tough cast by most ultra light standards. I’ll bet my best rod that they do a very good job. My choice would be a fly rod, or a long collapsible bream rod and about half the rod length of line attached.
With a fly rod all you do is lay it out there and let it sink very slow, they jerk, you jerk, lol! Great fly and a low cost fly rod will make for a lot of fun!
They can't stand the shaking of the legs while sinking so slow, lol! The wraps of lead are enough and with bluegills you don't need to be all that far away. Before I got my good fly rod a 6 to 8 years ago I first went to Walmart and they had a really cheap flared and reel, even a few little flies all for $20.00!

May have to try that with the fly rod. Although my fly rod skills are marginal at best.
How do y'all tie on the rubber legs? What's the process? Do the tying supplies places have the material for the legs?
New, and learning.
This is Carter Nelson. He used to be the head fly fishing guide at Callaway Gardens. He's tying his creation, the Rubber-legged Dragon, which is a killer for bluegill. (It's a fly but like any other, you can tie it on a jig hook, too.) He shows how to get the legs just right.

jawjatek, you can buy silli legs or skirt materials from almost all fly tying supply houses. As far as tying them on, secure your thread to the hook/jig as normal, bring it back up the shank to where you want the legs. place a single strand over the hook. Wrap both ways forming an x over the leg so it sticks straight out. If more than one set is needed, take a couple wraps away from those legs and repeat the process. This is all done after tail materials are attached and before the body materials. Attach body material and wrap making sure the legs stay straight out from the body. Secure the body material behind the jig head in the normal fashion.
Maybe some others have a different way of doing it, but as best as I can explain it, that's how I do it. Hope it helped...
I bought mine in bulk from living rubber.

I buy my silicone legs off eBay for cheap. Just do a EBay search for "Silicone Skirt Tabs". I tie all of my gill jigs with legs because I think gills like bugs more than baitfish. . My favorite colors are black and orange/brown.
I like them all!
Mine are marginal at best. I did fish with a fly rod a little as a kid, but that was 60 years ago, lol! I can cast a little and all you do with a fly rod is what the white legs as it sinks and if you loose sight of that, just watch the fly line leader knot for the jerk. Very cool and so much fun!
Also it's been a while, but the silicone I bought came from...... Fishing Skirts | Buy jig skirting material, bass fishing tackle & more

As long as I can just stick to roll casts I'm fine. Otherwise it's 50/50 on what might happen!

I've been killing the sunfish on the fly rod. I've got some hand ties from Binfordw with the little legs and about every 2 casts I'm getting a bite. Attachment 351466

I've watched all the videos you have suggested to me in the past and I'm night and day better at casting the fly rod than before. HUGE difference!

This is an interesting thread. I rent a room in the town I work in during the week and it's on a golf course. The ponds are loaded with bream and small bass. I have been catching a bunch on a #10 olive wolly bugger fly with no weight. Just a flouro leader and tiny little bump strips on the retrieve. But tying those little jigs for a light spinning rod sounds like a lot of fun. for those fishing them with say a 1/32 jig, how are you fishing those jigs with the rubber legs? Seems like it would sink too fast to just let it sink, seems like you would need to work it a little. These ponds have a lot of algae, so I can't let lures sink all the way to the bottom or they will foul up. Just curious how to work them.
I've been doing well in the S. Ga. rivers here with thos one or one that has a black head too. 1/16 oz. #6 sickle hook.Attachment 351487

You could also use some really small poppers with legs. Also they make some really small floats for fly fishing and maybe you could put one a little in front of your fly and retrieve slow or let it fall and the float will limit how far it can fall? I have never tried that, but seems possible and I am sure I have seen these little floats.
If I see them again I will post it.
