Question...

I know you all are going to think I'm nuts for askng this, but it's been on my mind for awhile now...Has anyone ever caught a crappie on a rainbow trout colored lure/ jig/or spoon?
Reason I'm asking is a long time ago there was an add in a magizine for two bomber styled crank baits painted like a rainbow trout. Well I was young and bought them. Had them mailed to me in Germany. Well when I came back I got sent to Ft Hood in Texas. Big ol' Belton lake was there and just for giggles I tossed it in, and a big ol' 5lb bass hit it...shocked me later to find out, there were no trout at all in Belton lake. So If bass will hit a lure painted like a rainbow trout, wouldn't other fish it one too?
Thought I'd throw it out there for others thoughts and opinions...

I would say most definitely! They hit things all the time that aren’t natural to them.

I know on my second tour to Germany I had the chance to fish at the Rod and Gun club pond in Hiedelburg and they had been stocking it for years, and not all the fish have been fish out of that lake ever. well there were fish hatched thier, native rainbows, and all of them would hit lures painted like them selves...I ate many a trout dinner that time around. I was stationed at Mannhiem, just a short drive away on the Autobahn...

If lure shape, size and action are right, color can enhance a lure's motion adding to its strike potential. Recently an orange body and chartreuse or lime colored tail Magnet has been doing well.

You should see the colors of cranks that have caught many thousand of crappie! I ain’t never seen a hot pink fish swimming in a lake, nor a red whit and blue, nor a half black half white, nor a....well you get the point

I haven't used them but know of others that catch crappie thru the ice with Jigging Raps in Rainbow Trout design....

I agree eagle 1, but this one is going into my box for sure. I had gotten away from fishing for a while due to the situations I was in, and you forget things. It's really amazing how simple little things trigger old memories you haven't thought about for years.

I have never see a minnow or any fish that looked like an orange auger tail plastic bait!I think color's are put on bait's to get fishermen to buy them! Look's just like a rainbow trout to you but to a bass just seem's to be lunch swimming away!

I have. I've caught bass on a Roger's clear plastic crankbait, clear PopR popper and a clear Heddon Zara Spook. Work just as good.

sometimes nothing matters other than getting a bait in the water
other times EVERYTHING matters .
I have put things in the water I swear would not get bit and wore out fish
I have put things in the water I swear would get tore up and never got a peck
there is always that one day

You can ask Billbob, he was with me when I tried it. I caught crappie using a salmon fly and a dodger. seriously....I've tried just about everything on my home lake cause historically it's been such a tough lake to catch crappie on. First time down it caught one real quick and I thought I was on to something. But after no more hits I think it was a fluke.
