wind changes

A week ago I was catching Crappie. As usual the wind was coming from the south. then I went fishing twice this week and did not get a bite. the wind was coming out of the north both days. I had been fishing in 20 feet a week ago also. Maybe the problem is that the fish moved to deeper water. those two days that i did not get a bit, i talked to other fisherman and they didn't catch any either. Anyone have an opinion? I would appreciate hearing from you. I forgot to say that was fishing on Lake Benbrook. that is near Fort Worth, texas.

The brook is super tricky to stay on fish . little subtle changes in anything will leave you thinking the lake don't have crappie in it .
I hit it alot years ago and for sure it can be feast or famine . they will be so heavy in the timber some days you think you should go pro . a little wind change or cloud cover and or some other thing like a quick water drop (they do all the time there I might add) and KABOOM you are done :Rofl
I have yet to hit it this year but my bud went 2 days ago and reported the same thing to me . 4 keepers in a long day of searching all the locations we typically target .
where they went is a guess but to be sure if there isn't a thermocline well developed they will park really deep on trees with a lock jaw that needs a tetanus shot .

Does the lake run north-south? It could be the feed moved. But I would lean more to the pressure change. Check the barametric pressure for those days before and during the wind change. The fish may have moved shallower.

Move and move frequently...... Not only area but depth would need to be considered..... Sure is fun chasing these fish.....

thanks and yes you are correct about hitting the brook a lot back when . we used it as a learn to find crappie in harsh conditions location and to be sure many times it was tough as heck to find them in that lake . we explored the dark bite the timber bite the brush pile bite and the drop off bite there and sometimes the aint no bite thing as well :Rofl
one thing for certain my friend it has some real large crappie in it as local lakes go but they can be rather elusive due to the amount of cover present and the onslaught of local anglers in the metroplex area .
have yet to hit it this year myself even though I live 10 minutes away , I never liked it much as a "full" water body and this year its been full to the top all year . I usually like to hit it when its low at 8 or 9 foot below full . at low level its super dangerous btw with ridiculous amounts of big timber just at the surface or slightly under it . its known locally as a boat killer and to be sure that isn't just a fish story .it kills lots and lots of boats every year when it does the draw down fluctuation thing in rapid fashion .

I’ve very rarely had good luck with a N or NE wind. ESPECIALLY the first day or two it switches from south to north.
If it stays northerly for several days they will finally start to bite on the waters I fish.
I find this for all fish. Not just crappie.

North winds usually mean high pressure, It really hurts fishing, they go deep and want bite much, My 2ct's

I loved fishing Benbrook in the 80's. Kept my boat in the marina there. It was very easy to limit out back then. Haven't fished it since I returned to DFW. Was going to rent a slip at the marina there but the manager told me it was unusable half the year due to low water levels. So I went to Joe Pool instead. Miss fishing there as it was a very fun lake to fish.

for a long time when I talked with other fishermen I would tell them if I was going to fish at Benbrook I liked the water to be at least 5ft below normal. I would catch more fish and the stumps were easier to see.

Just a though. I wonder how the fish know which direction the wind is coming from? For the sake if discussion in a great many thing's I think we tend to over think things. if the wind is from the north, do the fish quit eating?

Look out on the water and you should see a fin above the water surface. That fish then goes down and alerts the other fish about the wind change.

Wind direction moves the zooplankton in the direction of the wind. Bait fish move with zooplankton . crappie are going to follow the bait fish.

With the high pressure is clear blue skies -- sending lots of crappie deeper, or under docks usually at deeper water , But follow the Shad
