Ouachita river report 7/11 7/12

Water "was" falling good, just getting to where I want it so i decide time to hit some lakes and sloughs while i can.

Launch at daylight and off i go.

First stop, nada.

Second stop, more of the same.

Third stop, picked up seven

Fourth stop, more nada

Fifth stop, couldn't get into it. Trees had the mouth blocked

Sixth stop, jackpot

Ended up with a full box Thursday fishing solo. Catching fish in tops, along flooded brush and open water drifting jigs.

Thursday was mainly a scout trip looking for fish to target friday with 40w

Friday 40 and I bypass the first 5 stops I made the day before and go straight for the honey hole.

We ended up keeping another box full of good fish by 10am caught mostly on black and chartreuse and orange and chartreuse.

The only pic I took friday is the last pic. The rest are all Thursday pics.

The last day some look like entries for the Shiner - Good honey hole. We had 1.30 inches here close to the Bone so your spot should continue to fill the Cooler.

We had a good average on size, our biggest was about 1.75 both days

Been bass fishing the river for years but have just started white perch fishing out there. Are you fishing oxbow's or main river stuff. Bryan

Hay Bryan -- Welcome to CDC , I missed your earlier postings -- that River is getting Right, You also have Black Bayou and Sterlington loaded with Crappie

I don’t hear that, but I do believe most retired people (at least in my family circle) start not understanding the working/child upbringing lifestyle all too often and then make you feel bad when you can’t drop everything.

I'm probably part of all the above, but my main reason for not fishing is my partner is out of commission, but she is getting better. By the time the weather cools some, another reaason I'm not out there, I think she'll be ready to go. So y'all keep posting pretty pictures so that the fire in me doesn't go out.

I was at my camp this weekend in Hebert and decided to hit the Ouachita River for the 1st time. Launched at Riverton and headed north. I went a couple of miles, I guess, and ducked into a little opening on the left. Nada. Went a little further and tried another cut. Nada. Then I realize I was low on gas, so I headed back, stopped by the bluffs and tried to catfish, but too much boat traffic and equipment malfunctions. So I packed it it. Lot of people on the water Saturday. However, I did have a good day Friday and Sunday morning on Bouef River. Caught 28 both days, but threw them all back in. Freezer is full of fish. I did catch 3 really nice ones going 13 1/2, 14 1/12 and 15 inches. Ouchita River is beautiful. Just don't know where to go, I guess. Next time I go, I'll have a full tank of gas and explore.

North of bluffs 3-5 mi is a lake on right(east) have caught them there. Harrisonburg has been good. It’s a drive from you. You put in at public woolen lake? Was parking alright??

What part of boeuf river did you catch them on? North or south of the ramp? Jigs ? Thinking of going tomorrow. Bryan.

I went today and the fast fall has killed the bite I was on. Fish are leaving the sloughs with the water. I only had 16 today

Same here, caught some great big whites way out in the main river at least ten feet from the tree tops. Caught some slab blacks on the root balls. Only brought home 8 but they were some hosses.
