my thoughts on this subject .
who are these so called 2 legged creatures ?
certainly not what I thought a civilized culture would produce .
a lack of giving a you know what for anything and everything around them .
with a total disregard for other species and the environment they live in .
I certainly don't get it and for sure have a low patience level for it .
why on earth would someone toss a ball of braid down on a fishing dock ……..
3 feet away from a used line collection location ?
it took me 2 seconds MAYBE between photos to place it in the proper location .
what am I missing yawl ?
it just makes me so SAD to see spots I like to visit looking like this
I tried to make sense of it and understand or come up with who what when and why .
but in the end I just simply DONT get it . :banghead

I live in a very rural private, gated community, with about 30 full time residents, scattered around a 140 acre impound. There is also around 400 more "weekender" lots, that get used a few months out of the year. (Some of) These people, and their guests create the same problems around here.

Balls of fishing line, bait containers, beverage cans and bottles floatin in the water, fast food trash, etc. scattered about, just tossed out of the boat, or car window, carelessly discarded with no regard for anyone, or anything other than themselves. There are trash cans, but they are usually almost empty, and sometimes debris piles NEXT TO THE CAN !!!

During the summer months I spend a good deal of time pickin up after them, and it really gets my goat ! I can only imagine somewhere with PUBLIC access would be much worse.

I don't get it !!!

Main reason there's so few public bank fishn areas right now and just so ya know it's not just bank fisher folks that are careless (nicest way I can say it) but they are the most noticed.......
It's the world we've been living in for a while...... and it's definitely getting worse......

I hear ya all. I live just off the main highway to the famed Outter Banks of NC. Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, some very beautiful beaches. But the tourist just trash our roads, beaches, drive like the beach is not going to be there anymore. I have to work some Saturday's and they are so disrespectful to any body that is on the road in there way. I will go by some of our creeks and rivers here during the week and it's so clean,but the weekend hits and here comes the trash in the water. When I was younger I saw a photo of an Indian man sitting on a horse by a creek filled with trash. There was tears running down his face. As a previous scoutmaster we taught our scouts the lessons of clean up there trash, leave the outdoors better than you found or as we say Leave No Trace. Sorry but this hit a nerve.

Glad to know I'm not the only one picking up after the non-respectful folks,(I'm being real nice here). It truly saddens my heart to go fishing a spot and there is a lot of debris lying less than a few feet from a trash can. Some folks are just too lazy to help them selves. I'l take at least a plastic shopping bag, if not a full sized trash bag and spend the better part of an hour picking up trash so there area don't look like a land fill in an area I am fishing in. I also was taught growing up to leave an area better than when I arrived. If you take in with you, take it out with you, this includes the trash. Who knows what you'll find, lures hooks, jigs...

My opinion of their thought process.
Why should I do it? Somebody is getting paid to do it anyway.

It don't matter if someone is paid to go around and empty trash barrels or not, the trash thrown on the ground, not in the trash can is wrong. It burns me up so bad to see the amount of trash so called sportsman leave on the banks of the lakes, streams, and rivers. Used empty worm containers, lure wrappers, soda cans, beer bottles and cans, candy wrappers...it takes money that could be used for other things to pay folks to walk around and pick up after a bunch of no good LAZY people...

It's so easy to just throw something away. It's lazy and arrogant to not do it..

I can not for the life of me understand it...it takes a few seconds of time to put trash where it goes, either in a trash can or in a bag to take with them...noooo these lazy arrogant non-respecting individuals throw it on the ground and expect someone else to go behind them and pick it up...I will say this, they don't want me to see them do it...

I find that old soft tackle bags make great trash bags for line, cans, etc. I keep one in boat always.

I've never seen a used line dispenser at any of places I go; looks simple and affordable enough to make. I think I will share this and see if I can get any interest in making some.

We do offroading also and the woods are as dirty as the lakes. We helped develop an offroad park here locally and we tell people that if they want to ride here that the trash must go home with them...The younger generation are the worst. I have been to some parks that had garbage barrels and the last folks wouldnt even try to hit the can......We lost almost all bank fishing spots around a local lake due to dumping and garbage.

We have them at our local park lake, but even so they aren't always used. Trash cans aplenty right next to the parking lots & fishing docks, and still they're only used for about 60% of the trash left at the park. And it's not always the "younger crowd" that's leaving their trash & line wads lying around. Whenever I fish there, I try and pick up and throw away any trash & line I come across into the appropriate receptacle.
One of our local bait stores used to collect old line for recycling, but I don't know if they even do that now (and I don't frequent it very often). I've got a big bag full of old line, from changing lines on my reels, and if I remember to do so, next time I go to the park lake ... I'm taking that line and putting it in the line receptacle.

The rudeness, the ill manners and the heck with you attitude I see expressed on the lake and in daily life every day makes me wonder at times if I have turned into a grumpy old man. I too am sad, but even more I am disgusted at the deterioration of manners and consideration for others that I see on an every day basis. So I guess I have turned into a grumpy old man.

Sad to say but I think its the society we live on today. We had some people drop off a mattress & baby stroller in the side ditch at our house. Just plan lazy & rude.

Not to long ago I went fishing for trout at a spot I grew up fishing. The last place I stopped had actual bags of trash that were thrown down the bank beside of the stream. The rancid smell of food was to much for me and I had to leave. Generally I would try to pick it up but the smell was awful. They started dumping deer carcasses there as well. I just don’t understand people sometimes. My bank fishing crappie spots always have trash around and I my dad and I always take an extra trash bag with us (one to cover the fishing bag if it rains). They have threatened closing a few spots down because of the trash. It really is a shame. Some of the worst crowd for leaving stuff are the night time bank crappie fisherman (from my experience). And I go at night some but it amazes me what is left during the night. Empty propane canisters. All kinds of crap. It is sad for sure...

As a resource manager (fishery biologist) who picks up so many trash bags of trash every year at access areas (not my job but I do it anyway), I get as mad as anyone else. I don’t understand it either. We have tried leaving trash cans but this doesn’t work because some don’t throw their trash it it anyway and others fill the cans full with their house hold trash. Once the cans are full, it become how high can we pile the trash. The. Critters get into it and it is a bigger mess. We decided years ago that we have to deal with less trash with no trash cans. I am in total agreement with everything that's been said. I have been outraged with ignorance such as this for quite a while now; but I believe it has all gotten so out of hand now that there's little that can be done to change the negative momentum at this point. I'm afraid that even worse is yet to come.

it never stops yawl , I mean never , I am walking down a trail this week and about half way to the water there it is
same thing as the weekend thing, a ball of line in the trail . Cajun red line is my guess but the brand matters not .
I just stopped and looked at it shaking my head once again . picked it up ,put it in my pocket and took it to the trash can .

Same here at a small East Texas lake. There are several access points on the back side of the lake that get trashed so bad.ive cleaned them up several times just to come back a few days later and find it worse. I'm really tired of picking up after these non residents and wonder when these locations are going to be fenced off from the public like all the places I use to fish as a kid down on the coast that are inaccessible now because of the same reason. Kids now don't have many locations to go fish and meet their friends because of this. Sad.

I live and fish east Tennessee lakes , the trash by these lakes is unbelievable , I carry plastic bags and pick trash when I'm through fishing , the ones that really crank me are the ones that put their trash in a bag and hang it in a tree and leave it , you already did the hard part now why not take it home and put it in the trash . I had picked up several bags of trash one day , stopped at the ranger station and asked the lady if they had a dumpster to put it in , she looked at me like i had just arrived from mars , obviously she had never been asked that question before .

SAD just isn't the right word for it , we hit a spot last week that had used baby diapers laying all down the road side . not just a few but like 2 trash bags full . really disgusting and really terrible to think they are likely training the next generation to do the same thing .

Thats what really burns me up. I know those kids didn't throw those forever stink bombs out here either:mad::Doh::banghead:bash.
