Testing a trolling motor, and a fishing trip broke out!
I was fortunate enough to get a new Terrova two weeks ago, and was so excited that I started installing it within thirty minutes of receipt! A quick commercial break: I highly recommend Brian @ BBG Marine. He was patient and thorough as we discussed what motor would best suit my needs. He then quoted a price that includes shipping, and it was lower than anyone else. I ordered on a Thursday morning, and it was delivered Saturday around noon. Does it get any better? Yes, no sales tax!! Anyway, I installed it two weeks ago Saturday, and couldn’t wait to try it out! Sunday morning, my Mom was taken to the Emergency Room, admitted, and had a portion of her colon removed. This landed her in ICU, and it was touch and go for several days. This 84 year old lady was kept on a Ventilator and heavily sedated for several days. Fast forward to Tuesday. She came off the Ventilator, is improving, and is to be moved out of ICU today! Yes, I believe in the power of prayer.
Yesterday evening, about 6:30, I finally found my window to calibrate my new Terrova, so a quick hookup, and off we go. I chose a cove, that just happens to have a great brushpile, and proceeded to perform the calibrations. It didn’t take long, so might as well test it for real. I moved to the brush, hit Spot Lock, and started slinging a Brushpile Stump Bug in white and chartreuse. The water temp was 83, and I locked it in 21 FOW. Three willing participants were introduced to the inside of my livewell over the next few minutes. Since time was very limited, I decided to make a run to one more brushpile on the main channel for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I can usually find a few fish on this pile. Secondly, it put me near the jet skis, glitter boats, wake boats, ocean liners, and submarines! What better place to test that Spot Lock? Changed to a CB Slider, Junebug/Chartreuse, and my wife and I scored our first double for June! A little tidbit that I’ll throw in. My Slider was pretty messed up, so I pinched off the top 3/4 inch, and put it back on. I immediately hooked up with something that grabbed it, tested my drag, and wrapped up me up in the brush....never to be heard from again. Oh, and the Terrova handled the ocean like wake like a champ! We invited the lucky seven home for dinner, and got back to the truck right at dusk. I love it when a plan comes together! I don’t have a clue when we will be able to get back on the water, but Thursday was a true blessing!
