Like Jim and I got into last week. The weather held out better but I think the added sunshine changed the bite a little. Things started out slow, but that was a good thing. Gave Mike the skinny on what we were to do, and how I go about it, and off we went. He picked up on the shooting in short order, and the fish got hungry about the time his confidence got up. The fish he’s holding was his first of the day and was one of the better fish of the day. No Limpkins feeding in the water today, but we looked for them. No wind, quiet except for the birds, frogs and gators. A relaxed comfortable morning.
Around the corner to some areas from past trips and things began to improve. The darker colors from last week were kinda lacking this week so we went back with lighter, more natural colors and got a little busier. That fish seemed to be of good size, bumping close to or over 9” or below 6” with few in between. The ‘crackers we got were small but pretty in color. I asked where their mama was, no answer. By the time the wind picked up, it was a welcome change. The heat had gotten up some and the wind felt like a/c with the little sheen of sweat we had going on. They seemed to want some wood around them as we got our best fish where the bank had some roots and a little deeper water. The spot that Jim and I got our nice ‘crackers last week gave us, or should I say Mike, a few good ‘Gills that fought hard and didn’t give up easy. That spot in the rear view, we went looking for some others that we really never found. Picked up the Rooster Tail and it gave us a few, love the way they hit those things. Keeping them out of the trees is kinda tough with these lines. They really travel. It was about then that the rain sprinkled us a little, and it was past noon, so we wrapped up and headed for the ramp. A little traffic on the river, not bad at the ramp, and off to the house. The flowers were growing wild on the river and I don’t recall ever seeing them before. Sent a pic to my queen , she didn’t know what they were either. It isn’t all about the fish, just mostly. A very good day with Mike, who I don’t get much time with, and just before Fathers Day too. Looking forward to the next trip, maybe we’ll see you out there. Til then......Skeet
