Creek Chub Bait Company...The three friends were Henry Dills, Carl Heinzerling and George Schulthess.
Some of you got it right....It was the Creek Chub Bait Company in Garrett, Indiana. And JD had it right it was Henry Dills, Carl Heinzerling and George Schulthess that were the three friends that started the company. Dills spent hours whittling pieces of cedar wood sitting by his bathtub and checking how his designs performed in the water. Starting out in 1906 and then incorporating in 1916. They had a special process of treating the wood to keep the finish from cracking and each bait was painted anywhere from 7 to 14 times and the hook holes and other openings were treated after painting to seal the wood and prevent waterlogging. Eventually other companys introduced plastic lures and it soon became a price issue. In compromise plastic lures under the Creek Chub name were produced by a outfit called Lazy Ike......Later on Creek Chub was picked up by Pradco a company in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In 1978 the 75 year old Creek Chub Bait Company closed its doors.
