My dad and I were at Reelfoot this morning trying to catch a fish. We were fishing this duck blind when this boat pulled up and started fishing it with us. Now if you have ever been to Reelfoot, then you know that there is a duck blind every 100 feet. Surely they could have went to the next one over??

How's the fishing on reelfoot supposed to be there last week but had motor trouble and couldn't make it did I miss a good week

I first went to Reelfoot 3 years ago. I couldn't believe how close people fished to each other. We had boats drift or run 10'-15' from us. Sophie Sue was barking when they got too close. I guess that's the norm down there but not up here in Indiana (for me). To me, it was uncomfortable and maybe a little dangerous. Heck, I try to stay 100' (maybe) from others fishing or relaxing.
This year when we went to Reelfoot, we didn't have the problem. It seemed that everyone gave each other some space. But the fishing was different this year and everyone was trying to stay out of the terrible wind.
it don't bother me much if you get close , I see it frequently , we were the about only boat on the water the other day and I was ripping em pretty good .
a lone kayak was out about 150 yards away facing us and I could see he was watching me sling them
he crept closer and closer and closer every fish and eventually was right behind us casting away
never saw him get a bite and I am pretty sure he wasn't around when we ruined the spot he rolled up to as our first stop before he got there :Rofl
If I can hit you with my jig you are too close !
Maybe keep a few little ones to toss in their boat when they get too close. LOL

No doubt... fishing etiquette and courtesy on the water seems to be an elusive concept to many.
But, I've always heard that fishing has a way of drawing people closer together.
Maybe that's what that ole' saying was really sayin'.

My feelings exactly. I don't appreciate being crowded when I fishing a spot and I don't crowd anybody else when they are fishing where I wanted to fish. If somebody pulls in on where I'm fishing I normally just leave it to them. There are too many places to fish on a lake to crowd in on somebody who arrived there first.Quote:

Well, you could feel flattered that they thought you were good anglers so they had to get close to catch fish.
Or, you could be a little PO'ed another angler would even think doing what they did was acceptable. I am in this camp. Give people their room.

I was under a pier catching fish and had someone come in and hit my boat so they could get in position to move me out. I let them have it. Moved a few piers down and here they came again. They said I must of caught all of them from the other pier. Went back to the original pier and caught them again. Nothing better than catching them while they watch.
Yea that is what i will go with :) Maybe they thought I was a guide!! For some reason they didn't stick around very long though. I guess they were smarter than they looked!!lolQuote:

Got this yesterday. Couldn't get mad - caught a 2lb+ CNBG 1/2 hour before they showed up. I moved back out, chatty Cathies were making too much noise, and then they leave...

Me too brother. I usually fish a 38,000 acre impoundment and you usually see this with bank fisherman at choice spots. With boats not too much problem. In any event if you ask politely I’ll give you the shirt off my back. If you want to get pushy I’m not real good at playing nice.

Bumping my boat is unacceptable and will ruin the fishing day for both of us. I've only had one fellow get close enough for me to talk to him. I was catfishing and he was bass fishing. Most of the lakes I fish are big enough that folks stay out of each other's way.
My pet peeve is folks running by a tied off or anchored boat at full throttle. It's rude and inconsiderate. But even worse are the ones who try to slow down but don't. They'll throttle back to the step and set up a huge wake while they're waving thinking they did me a favor. There's two old boys that fish the lake where I do most of my fishing. They are both 89 years old. They fish every day. They are exclusively crappie fishermen and make a run up the lake and back. They are probably on the water for two hours a day. They fish with shiners and will run up to a tree, fish for three to five min (most times less) and catch a fish or not move to the next tree. I don't think they've ever gone home with less than a meal or two. They always slow down when passing a parked boat and most times when simply meeting another boat. It's just old fashioned manners.
Boat ramps.... The State mandates water and boating safety courses. They need to forget that and give classes on boat ramp etiquette. Since I retired I won't hardly even go fishing on the weekend. People are nuts and something about boat ramps brings out the nuttiness even more so. One Saturday afternoon the boys and I pulled into the cove where the ramp was. We had fished all morning and were coming in about the time the jet skiers were waking up. There was a big wad of people and trucks and trailers milling around by the ramp and there was a fellow standing next to his boat just past the end of the ramp. I asked the boys if they noticed anything odd about the situation.... After a moment or two #1 son pipes up, "That guy must be about 12 feet tall!" Yep, he was standing on the roof of his truck. He was in the boat and his wife was backing him into the water. She hadn't been doing it to his satisfaction and he'd been yelling at her. She finally had enough and got out of the truck. Of course none of this diminished everyone else from launching or loading in amongst the tow truck and the 15 helpers that showed up, beers in hand.
When I launch, even by myself, I can get the boat in the water and tied off (out of the way) in less than five min. If i've got some one helping, less than a min. Same with loading. But I don't have to get out after I've backed in the water, get life preservers, ice chests, fishing gear, kids, etc... out of the truck and put them in the boat, then see if the motor will start, try to back out and remember that I didn't unlatch the bow, etc, etc, etc.. all while the radio is blaring...
So, I guess, for me, Anything that happens with anybody on the lake on Saturday or Sunday is too close for me.
When I was working, I'd go to a convenience store every morning. It really irked me to go in at 7:00 Monday morning and there'd be some guy gassing up his boat, heading out. I'd mutter under breath that there aught to be a law.... but that someday, someday, I'm gonna be THAT GuY...
Now, I'm THAT GUY and I whistle and give a hearty "Good Morning" to all the poor slobs trudging off to work on Monday morning!

if your rod tip touches my rod tip I would venture to say you are in a bit tight
but to be sure I have had it happen more than once :Rofl
heck on docks if you move to measure or keep a fish you now no longer have that spot
and if you ketch fish in a spot more than twice and someone sees you and likes that spot
it becomes his or her spot the next time you visit as well …..:Rofl
