Short for Zebra Company?
Good one "G". I have no idea.
Growing up I fished with some many zebcos. From 202s to the famous 33. If I remember right it has something to do with a bomb company but not sure what exactly it all stands for.

Zero Bomb Company
Zero Hour Bomb Company I grew up about 2 miles from the plant.
Correct...Its Zero Hour Bomb Company....
Now for the rest of the story.....
The Zero Hour Bomb Company went into business in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1932. The company made electric time bombs for the oil industry used for fracturing oil well formations. Thats the only product that they made and the market for their product was drying up and they were looking for something else to make. A watch maker and inventer named R.D. Hull designed and invented a backlash free fishing reel and was looking for someone to manufacture and market it. A partnership deal was worked out with him and Zero Hour Bomb Co. In 1949 they produced their first reel called the Standard. They marketed these under the name Zebco and in 1956 changed the company name to Zebco. In 1961 Zebco merged with the Brunswick Corporation. Then in 2001 the W.C.Bradley Company bought Zebco from Brunswick. So, now you know. Stay tuned for next Monday for some more fishing Trivia.

Very interesting Good story G.
Great story and History lesson. Thanks, "G".
Read the word bomb and immediately thought military grade. Guess the product could still be use to locate fish.:Rofl
I still use a few Zebco spincast reels though prefer Daiwa.
