I remember last year about this time the jig bite was fading, or getting so light that I couldn't do much with them. Not going to start pulling cranks, so looking for some options. Can't see longlining and losing a lot of tackle, so pushing Roadrunners seems like a reasonable possibility...
Anyone else do this?
I know I'm going to need more weight above them to keep them down where I want them, but other than that it's all new to me...
It works great, I push off the front of my boat with 10' heavy poles, .8 to 1.5mph. with a 2oz weight. 20' of line out equals 10 to 14' deep plus or minus, according to speed. Enjoy! I also do this with cranks.
don't forget that SlabTail jig it will produce pushing too !!!!
I do it all the time! I run 1 1/2oz weight above it! Works like a champ! A lot of my double minnow style rigs I put a road runner style jighead on the bottom! Run from .5 -1.2 mph and the Slabs will slam it! I use my 14’ ozarks for it

I use 18 footers, braid line for my main line hooked to a 2oz weight from ScottV and then my rig below that using mono. Theory is that if I hang up I can break the mono and save the weight, more expensive part of this process. I run singles most of the time but like double rigs too.
I use 3/8 weight between two 1/8 runners about .5-.8mph and do ok. I use different bodies from straight to curly to marabou or even just regular Slater’s. Some are Colorado and some a willow blades.

Wherever you are fishing that you would lose them pulling, you will lose them plus a 2oz weight pushing. Better use lighter line, or get ready to break some rods. And when the jig bite stops on the Rez, you better be pulling cranks or might as well stay home

Very productive especially on lakes that get a thermocline. I like to do it with 1 oz weights. That way I don't feel like I'm lifting bricks out of the water. Road runner/spinner type jigs work great for this. I try to get as big a profile as a crankbait on the bottom. Tie them up and wrap them on pool noodles like I do double minnow rigs.

Road runners work great. When I used to push that's what I started with. Road runner head and a minnow. Then eventually I realized the minnow was what they wanted so I just started tying on 2 plain hooks and a weight. Road runners got expensive. But they do work. I still use a road runner with a curly tail grub and a spin cast pole. Cast around structure and the weed lines during spawn.
When you power troll roadrunners, do you run them with curly tails? Do you tip them with minnow?
I usually use some type of curl tail jig, mostly seem to use bobby garland strollers but i have a bunch of other regular curl tail jigs. I usually let the fish tell me to tip with a minnow or not. I start out with about half tipped with a minnow and if they want the minnow i will tip em all.Quote:
