Should I tie a knot that leaves a small loop so the jig can move freely or tie a knot directly to the jig and cinch it down so the jig hangs exactly how I want it to be everytime?

On jigs I use a loop knot. Minners I tie a palomar directly to the hook...just my :twocents. Ymmv
I was always a firm believer in a tight improved clinch knot. Last year I tried using the loop knot. I will not go back to a tight knot on a jig again. I believe the action of the jig improves with a loop.

That was what an old man told me he said if you don’t have a loop for the jig to bounce and move more naturally you won’t catch as many. They also sold tiny clips that you tie on with a regular knot and clip your jig into a small loop. The clips were very small about the size of an o-ring on a crankbait lip. They are awesome for changing jigs without re tying every time.

Ive used the Loop knot for a long time. It allows the lure to move as designed to.
I'd recommend the loop over the direct tie. Doing so appears to give the jig a more natural swimming action, in my opinion. But the game is all about confidence! Whatever helps you achieve the confidence level you need to get the job done.
Just so you know, I do NOT use a loop knot. I don't like the idea of the eye of the jig sliding (and abrading) the line inside the loop. But I do use a loop, just not the kind you are thinking about. I use Mustad Snap Hooks instead. These tiny, almost weightless clips (which were designed by & for fly fishermen), are tied directly on the end of my line. Thereby giving me not only the "loop" effect, but it also allows me to quickly change jigs. I hate having to re-tie all the time. :)

I use a loop knot unless vertical jigging then I tie a tight knot. Just how I roll.
loop knot …...ketch me if you can :Rofl
Overhanded Loop is very easy to tie. Any advantages of tying a different loop knot over this one? Example, non slip loop knot instead of Overhanded?
Handy but looks like a BOOGER on jig! Thats what a swivel look like...Just My Take
I use small snaps and Fas snaps!
I find the FasSnaps use a really thick wire. Don't like that heavy a connect on my jigs. Besides, unless you're a Rockerfeller, they cost an arm & leg! Here's a much lighter and less expensive option:

So what knot do you use to tie the snaps to your line?

Calling on my vast experience at crappie fishing, twice now, I'd call the best knot the surgeon's knot. I think that's what it's called. Run the line through the eye of the hook. Te a slip knot in the end and put the hook, jig through the loop in the slip knot and pull it tight. Learned to do that fly fishing for trout! There the best knot settled once and for all. Your more than welcome. You may find this hard to believe but as a kid, about 6 or 7 yrs old, my knot for tying on hooks was several simple overhand knots! We were still taking 4" fish home in those days. Even some three inch fish. Ah heck, we took everything home then!
A cinch not will work as well as a cinch knot if and only if you are dilligent in adjusting the knot after each fish pull, snag or the likes that has changed the angle of the bait hanging. I am not so I choose to use a loop knot. I find the knot that Richard Gene uses to be very fast and very strong. And it had improved my catch rate with jigs.

On the more honest side, I'm not really sure the knot you tie matter's that much. I've used the Palomar and some say it's the best going. I've used the cinch and the improved cinch. Don't understand the need for the improved version the original never failed me. Then fly fishing got me going with the surgeon knot and for jig's it's my most used knot. If I don't use the surgeon knot then it just depends on what I feel like tying. I'm not so sure tying a bunch of granny's is really all that good an idea but, as a kid it worked on those 3 and 4 inch bluegills!
loop /jigging , Palomar casting . :twocents
I've used same simple overhand knots forever and caught tons of fish but now trying all these others but when they are biting and in hurry revert back to my go to. Usually use the 7 twists and go thru the hole knots now, whatever those are called. it's all good but am trying to find a loop knot that is easy peasey as I jig most of the time.
I always use a loop knot like Richard Gene shows in this video.

The surgeon's loop in my opinion is the easiest way.
