Between those two .... I prefer a spinning reel.
Spinning reel for sure, better built,longer lasting, reel under rod helps with balance and sensitivity.

Another vote for the spinning reel.
There’s not much of a market for quality spincast reels. Consequently, most modern spincast reels are not that good.
Get a spinning reel.
spinning every time, as said most spin cast are sub par quality and more trouble then they are worth.JMHO
I use both. The key to using spincast reels is to use light lures and to reel in fish using the rod and not the reel handle. Casting is easier for me and only a few companies have spincast reels worth buying that don't wear out in a few years. I take along both spinning and spincast on board so I can switch hands when one gets
tired. One brand even allows good casting distance using 8# test braid, 1/32 oz jig and soft plastic lure.

It depends Me I can use them all...But lots of time newbees have problems with spin...and spincast usually can fix that...
and like mentioned by Death before Disc said there aint any High Quality spin cast out there
I bought a couple of Johnson Centuries years ago, for my daughters. They have long since outgrown them. But, they work fantastic for catching crappie. Nice slow retrieve ratio too. No longer made, but, ebay can be a friend.
I've used the Daiwa 120A Sivercast reel for four years and caught some very large fish with it.
I use Zebco omegas. Pricey but what I like. Of course I also have several ultralite spinning reels also. The down side of the spinning reels for me is the line twist. The downside for the zebco's , even though they cost in the $65 plus range is the drag is cheap and has to be reset often. And I'm not trying to start a debate on why line twist's. lol
Spinning. Started with one and tried the spincast, but the many reasons already stated had me going back to spinning.
The Zebco Bullet is an Excellent Spincast reel...it's the closest thing to baitcaster performance that you can get...and it has a button.
You can pick them up on Ebay from time to time for 75 Bucks or less new.
I have 4 of them for Crappie fishing...2 are spooled with low vis gray Seaguar braid, and 2 are spooled with hi vis yellow. My son has his spooled with Nanofil.
I've had 2 of them since they came out in 2017...no issues whatsoever.
They have brought in 10 lb Walleye, 8lb Bass, and 15lb Channels with Zero problems.
Opening and closing a bail all the time is a PITA...these are much easier.

I use mostly open face spinning reel. I also have several older closed face spinning reels (Daiwa & Zebco) which are under the rod and have a trigger instead of a button. The trigger spins are not a fraction of the quality of conventional spinning reels especially when it come to drags but they still serve a purpose. Try giving a kid or any first timer your Shimano spinning reel. Prepare yourself for an afternoon of biting your tongue and clearing tangles.

I have Zebco 33s on my spider rigging rods, some of the originals and newer models also, I really like the spin cast for S/R and they work just fine for this, as they being used mostly for line storage and it is much easier to hit the pushbutton than trying to get the bail flipped on a spinning reel, when you snag several rods in a brushpile; also it seems to be less tangling when storing rods for ride home, they are more compact than spinning reel with much less protrusions to snag lines.
I prefer a spinning reel by far. Much easier to put new line on. More mechanicly sound.

If you ever have the chance to use a Diawa Gold Cast ( spin cast reel ) you will never go back to spinning reels.
