I would suggest that you check the DNR site, I saw where some of the camp grounds are closed due to the water.

Just got home from there. High water ramp at Cutright is open. Slow side pretty good looking water. 61 degrees. Tons of little crappie, kept 3 over 11”.

Chuck, or anyone else who has been recently, is crooked creek ramp at middle ford open and usable?
Early on, the only 2 ramps I heard unusable were Allen Creek and Pine Grove, but I drove to Pine Grove 2 weeks ago as lake dropped below 13’ high I think it was and right now still coming up a 0.1 ft per day. 10 days ago I was up at the Crooked creek ramp by boat, and it was usable then and being used, so not totally sure but would think it is. Maybe call DNR? I may fish Monroe this weekend but will either be fishing main lake or Pine Grove are depending on how much rain we get. High water of 11 plus feet makes fishing tough, but, I also have a couple of mushroom patches even tho those ridges kick my a#%. :Rofl

On these larger bodies of water in central southern Indiana, its a slow process but they are starting movement up and so are the baitballs. Cool nites slows the water from getting warmer. Water 3 ft. Below surface is still super cold. Add 11 plus ft. of high water to the depth on Monroe and that also slows the water heating up. Add more rain in the equation. and that slows the spawn. Monroe, Lemon, Cataract, Mansfield, and Brookville, fish don’t spawn till starting in mid May thru week or so in June and it’s still April 24. Best way to fish Monroe is fish the brush and catch the fish in 6 to 10’ of depth but you just never know, if you find that warm spot, they can be more shallow. I was all over Lemon yesterday hitting all my hot spots, but they were in one 500 yd. bank in 60 degree water with most of the main lake 57 for me. There were probably other warm spots in the lake, but it’s hard to cover 1700 acres in a day and Monroe right now is about 3 to 5000 acres more water being flooded. If you google J R Guide service, Rusty is guiding crappie fishing right now and primarily hitting Middle Fork and using minnows on jigs and under bobbers a lot hitting the brush and using a “hit and run” method to find fish till he finds them. He gives fishing reports and has a couple of pics. That is not to say, he also will at times, head up the North Fork also.
Hit Monroe at Pine grove just before this last rain, caught one 13inch female fishing brush with minnows on hit and run method, no dink’s. Wind was rough and bites slow but my best days on Monroe as Cevans has stated has been in May and early June on larger fish and greater numbers. Water level was up but not on the rise for the structure and brush fishing. Heads up tho May is around the corner. Water depth and water temperatures are getting better on these bigger reservoirs

My PB crappie out of Monroe came about 6 yrs ago in May, Lake was normal pool, long lining a road runner with chartreuse curly tail just off Grub Point in north side of creek channel, there’s a few stumps next to creek channel 17.5 in. My second best Monroe crappie came off a row of stumps across the last biggest bay heading up north fork towards Pine Grove. That row of stumps runs east to west. 17.25” crappie Lon lining jigs again. See if you can find those stumps sometime as they hold spawning crappie. :cheers2

Previously it was at 10.4 and dropping, but we had 2.5 “ of rain last week, and 2” this week, and East Fork of White River below at Williams is flooded for next few days so they have the dam shut down not releasing water. So yes, Quite a few lakes coming up again. Monroe is 13. Above summer pool again.Quote:
