Prayers and support

After reading a post on here it moved me to write my own post. For years now I've been a bad alcoholic. I've been in denial about it. I realized that I've lost control. I get stressed at work and I end up turning to the bottle for comfort. I know that it is the wrong thing to do. A few weeks ago I had went 21 days without a drink. I got transferred far away from my family and the stress got to me. I feel ashamed that I turned to alcohol again. After reading about how many God fearing people are on here, it gives the strength to want to beat this. I could use all the prayers and support that I can get. Thank you everyone.

That post is a good start. I tried quitting on my own with no success. When a different crisis hit my life, I pursued Jesus with all I had and the drinking just went away. It’s been 29 years since I’’ have had a drink and haven’’’t missed it a bit. Hang in there, praying for you.

As Robert has said, the beginning is in place. I haven’t walked in your shoes but have been close to many that have. You have my respect for wanting to address it and change the path of your future. rramos361, my story, My father drank a LOT any where from 1 to 1and1/2 cases of beer almost everyday. Alcoholism can run in families and while I could never drink beer, it turns my stomach REAL quick, however I learned a long time ago how much I love the taste of a good mixed drink. It doesn't matter what kind it is, any hard liqueur is fine with me. Realizing I didn't want to be like my Dad, even though it was and still is kind of hard, I don't take any kind of alcohol.
My prayers go out to you and anyone else that has a problem with alcohol, it can be a terrible curse. I managed on my own, but there are many places out there where you can get help before you destroy yourself and your family, please seek them out, with their help and your determination you CAN lick the problem. :pray:praysent

Excellent start, RRamos, knowing you have an issue that needs to be addressed. Gather as many friends around you, commit to a different lifestyle and ask them to hold you accountable. That worked for me in addition to finding Christ at a late stage in life. My entire world has changed for the better and now I can enjoy chasing crappie without worrying about things I have no control over. That allows me to address those issues I know I need to work on. As all the programs state “take it one day at a time.” Prayers for you and comfort for your family.

I’ve never had a drinking problem but know plenty that have
You’ve take the first step , admitting you have a problem.
I suggest you seek a support group of some type like AA or something similar.
Most people have to learn new coping skills so they can deal with stress in a HEALTHY way.

My job comes to an end May 21st. I know I need to find ways to preoccupy my time after I get off work. There's not much fishing in West Texas. If I was home, I have a lake 10 minutes from home. I'm going crappie fishing in a bit with my son. Thank you to everyone for the support.

this is a wonderful post,,, it takes a true man to admit he has a problem with drinking,, I only wish more men out there could admit that alcohol is an addiction.,, no worse or better then heroine or even doing meth,,,,,, I'm the son of a NYC steel worker ,,, My dad drank as long as I can remember,,, unfortunately for him, it took a toll n his liver , heart , marriage and he died before his 40th birthday back in 1976... It also didn't help me growing up in a place like Cape Cod where partying and drinking was more popular then church or even keeping a job ..by the time I was 25, I already had 3 DUI's and been in and out of jail several times due to alcohol and dug related issues .. I had several Run- ins with the excessive drinking like police related issues, family issues and even once getting shot and left for dead,,, Nothing ever worked out good after my turning to alcohol and drugs with my problems,,, Only God and the my faith in Christ help turn my life around,,, it too nearly 35 years before I finally woke up, but after the death of my first wife at age 37, I decided to wholeheartedly give my life over and let God be In charge and I finally took the back seat and listened... So now I let him guide me by understanding of His holy word and I do my best and let God do the rest,,,, He has Never been a minute early, nor a minute too late,,,, He is always On-time,,, Everytime! I believe God is The answer,,,just give Him a chance to change you,,, you'll like the man you'll become,,,

Hang tough, admitting you have a problem is the biggest step. Take it in small steps and set your goals to recognize small victories along the way. If you slip up just dust yourself off and get right back on the horse. As many have said, God is the answer. Praying for you....

rramos, You have taken the first step to recovery, that is admitting the problem. I will not say what has already been said, other than listen to these smart folks talking to you. I will be praying for your successful recovery.

We all know what it’s like to be tempted by Satan--and as others have suggested--that's exactly what you are talking about here. This is why the Bible is very careful to encourage us to take strict control our thinking. In John 10:10 Jesus said, “I came that you might have abundant life. Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy.”

During our time on earth, we all (surely) have the opportunity to meet with God and to have communion with Him--Holy Spirit to our frail human spirit. So, one of the first steps in self realization is knowing that Satan cannot touch our spirit; but that he does have almost unlimited access to affect us through our bodies and our souls. It is there that every temptation and all of the spiritual battles that you've heard about all of your life actually occur--including every fleshly desire that work to control and manipulate us.

One must ask: What do we have that Satan wants to steal, kill and destroy? Answer: It's the Abundant life that Jesus offers. Abundant life is a seed that must begin by being received by the good soil in the present. The good soil is a needful and trusting heart. If Satan can simply fill our feeble human minds full of hurt, bitterness, anger and guilt about the past--any one or more of the problems of this world; then he has stolen our present and destroyed our desire for an abundant life--by preventing us from ever truly receiving the seed of His Word. Therefore, if Satan can simply keep us so preoccupied with worry, fear and anxiety about the future, then he has successfully destroyed our chance for abundant life in the present--and (surely) the germination, growth and the chance of any harvest in what would have been our abundant and blessed future.

Congratulations, through your spirit you are hearing the Word of Life & Deliverance.

Special K gave you great wisdom my friend. My prayers join his and others that witl the Grace of God minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day and month by month your resolve to bet better will increase until with the help of Jesus you are victorious.

Today makes day number 3. I've been keeping myself busy with video editing, reading the bible, and talking to my wife. Being away from home is hard. Thank you everyone for your prayers and support. With God, all things are possible.

rramos361 I pray for you to put that addiction to rest in Jesus name. He is risen. Let me say to you, one thing you never have to wonder about or worry about is the love for you of our Father in Heaven. It is with you always, never missing for a second. Doing alright???
Good OR bad, I'm still praying!!

My son, who will be 30 in a few months went through a very bad time with alcohol and drugs. One day about 4 years ago, he called me at work and told me he needed help. We talked to some friends and they recommended a treatment facility. At first, he just wanted to do the 30 days and hope for the best. He ended up spending 6 months there with the last 3 being able to return to his job and report back to the rehab facility in the evenings. We visited him regularly. It has been sad to hear about all the young and older folks that have died, many times from suicide that were in the same facility that he was in. Having all the support from the group and from sponsors as well as regular AA meetings has given him the support he has needed. He will receive his 4 year pin for being sober in a few weeks. You have to be committed 100%, no pretending. He has held a great job with great benefits for 2+ years. He and his wife(met her thru the program) just had their 1st child, my first grandson. We are very proud of him. He has told his story to many groups over the last 4 years to hopefully help others go down the right path. I hope and pray he never relapses but I know it is possible. I hope you will do whatever it takes to get the help you need. Many people can quit cold turkey but so many people need a lot of support from others to get the strength they need to stay sober. I pray you will continue to admit you have a problem and seek help. Your life will be much more rewarding and your loved ones will forever be grateful to you.

I said a prayer for you sir , I have had multiple people in my life that had issues with different addictions.
If you ever want to go ketch a fish and your in dfw we should go give it a try
life is short my friend and it is much easier without a monkey on your back for sure .
