In fiberglass too. Look at a couple things when buying.
1) How wide is it between the gunwells at the front pedestal, that's where you will spend most of you time and plenty of room is very important.
2) Look at boats on the water and see how they sit in the water, sitting fairly low and close to the rubrail is a pretty good sign it will spider rig well in the waves. Look at the makes and models of that boat.
Remember the longer the better, my 18 foot boat fished good but my 20 footer fishes way better. Good luck, the search can drive you crazy but once you get in one it will be worth it!

I agree on the larger fiberglass boats as well for rigging or pulling of any kind. One thing I also looked for when shopping used older glass boats was the option of placing two extra seat bases on the front deck. I didn't want the bases installed in hatches / lids of any sorts. The double seat setups are fine for most folks, but I like to be able to go thru the middle of my seats without stepping over the high framing. I'm not a small guy and fish with others that are not as agile as they used to be. Swinging over the gunwales doesn't appeal to be that much and with my transport rack up it's not even an option to swing around outside from the left seat.

The one that's paid for. :fish
Mo'Money nailed it on the head! Mine isnt an early 2000's but a 2012. It fishes like a barge, I fished in a 15-20 mph wind at D'Arbonne and had no rod bounce except when a boat went by!
MO is correct. We were fishing Enid a couple years ago out of my 2006 Ranger 522 in pretty stiff wind. The guy next to us was in a big Lund aluminum. Our poles held steady right above the water line. The Lund's poles were bouncing up and down slapping the water.
Theres a 2007 19' Triton with a 90 Optimax, new chairs, new Minnkota Terrova 80# w spotlock and hand held remote, Helix 9 up front. Solid as a rock. Wide and stable. Its for sale for $15,500, a friend told me. They saw her at Enid Lakeside Grocery last week.

Bigger, heavier, the better.

i fish out of an 18ft express and it gets the job done but what everybody else says is very true. glass is better. my boat is too light on the bow for spider rigging in much chop. im a fan of the newer nitros they have a huge bow and set pretty low in the water. skeeter is a great boat as well. when i do upgrade it will be 20' at minimum
Triton. TA196.
Only production glass boat designed specifically for spider rigging by crappie fishermen. Everything else is settling..............
IMHO only. Others may disagree, but having seats and rod holders attached at the BOTTOM of boat instead of 2 feet above water line on top of the deck makes all the difference when waves/wakes make other boats rock and roll.......
The higher a point is above center of roll, the more pitch will be observed. Thin of the difference in below decks on a sail boat and the top of the mast..........OR a deer stand in the wind, bottom rung barely registers the sway of the tree, but up at the top of the stand you may sway 2 feet in both directions.
I pass on this one!
Though my 97 Ranger 397 xt fish and ski doesn't have much forward room,,, it's plenty big enough for me at 19.5 ft long and almost 90" wide,,,,,and it handles waves just fine when fishing....rear deck has plenty room for fishing there... I just like it up front with my Mega and spider rig setup..
I have a 2018 Ranger RT 178, works very nice. Wish I would have got the RT 178 C. It has pedestal holes for 2 seats up front instead of using EZT Pole side by side seat mount
Heavy low side glass boat older boat with newfour stroke
This is the 19' Triton for sale at Enid Lakeside Grocery. Got all the right stuff for spider rigging. Wide and solid.Attachment 342478

Inside at flor is 59. Total width at bases is aboutAttachment 342496 78. Bases are 32 inches apart. Attachment 342495. Have to remember. These are mounted at bottom of boat. Floor down there is not as wide as it would be if it was at the level of the gunwales. Seat bottom is at the level of gunwales.

Makes sense. 59" is plenty of foot space but it's not enough butt space. When spider rigging in my boat, to turn around in the seat, we have to turn towards the outside, over the water.
Anyone using a sea ark easy cat for spider rigging??

I have not but have always liked the width up front. The problem I see with Sea Ark is how high the sides stick out of the water. Will catch wind like a sailboat I would imagine. I run an xpress hd 20. It has one of the widest front decks out there and yet sits as low as any tin boat. We can spin around and go to back of boat between the seats or over the gunwales with no problem at all. I load it down with weights and relocated the batteries up front and it sits almost as low as a glass boat. Add a silent stalker and it will be quiet as a mouse.
There really isn't one boat out there for me. Too much duck hunting and big river catfishing in addition to the crappie fishing that prevent me from going glass. Need both I guess. Back to work I guess.
Im waiting for BRM to loan me an Xpress XBAY 21 for a season so I can test it out. That boat is the widest dang thing out there and comes with a pad hull as well. 102 inch wide at the beam and 78 on the floor. Problem is 28 inch sides. Guess that would be pretty useful when its blowing 20 mph and I have to cross Sardis. I heard Doug Wynn (crappie gills n more ) switched over to the Excel 230 Bay which is basically the same thing but 23 foot.
Not quite.... mine is 108” and glass.

My apologies I was responding to the man's question about sea ark aluminum boats. Excel and xpress (aluminum) both advertise that their 102' beam boats are the widest that can be legally towed. That might be fake news tho.

I fish out of a SeaArk 240. My partner and I both fit well up front side by side with the front 25gal live well between us. We are BIG guys as Feelay can attest to. Plenty of room to turn to the inside and not out over the rails. Down side is it does have high sides and will catch the wind with the wrap around windshields. 60 in drift socks are the ticket. {again Feelay taught me}. Great cat fishing boat too.
Those boats look like absolute beast, got to see one a month or two ago at Hernando Point ramp on Arkabulta. Didn't do a walk around but man from a distance it's a tank. If I was in the market for a big aluminum, that boat looks hard to beat. Love that big full windshield on them, come in awfully handy when you have to take a cold boat ride across the lake.
