I dock my boat at a local marina so I know this will not apply to everyone, but appreciate the help.
What have you used or seen to transport rods? I am loving long lining and would like a better way to transport 6-8 rods down to the boat along with other equipment without taking several trips and tangles.
I have seen a few 4 rod holders and a discontinued 8 rod holder transport. Any ideas?

For shorter rods (8 ft and less), the foam block rod holders work okay. I use them in my garage to stand rods up for storage and then carry a block of them to boat/trailer in driveway.
I have bundled my rods,14"12"and 8" together with the short bungie cords with a black ball on one end from Walmart automotive dept.I have used this method many time to put them in motel rooms for the nite.It make one long stiff bundle that you can manover up stair wells and into motel rooms with ease.
Butch(Gabowman) taught me a trick that realky reduces tangles. With the jig in the hook keeper, wrap the line 3X around the rod at the 3rd eye from the handle using the 3rd eye to anchor the line. You need the line tension as tight as you can get it without flexing the rod.
This keeps the line tight against the rod and reduces the tendency of tangles.
This works best with jigs or lures, if you have multiple hooks and weights for tight lining that's a different challenge.

Only problem with hooks stuck in handles is the cork or foam tears or breaks over time and then you got a real crappie rod!:Rofl
I thinks ofishlbizzness has one of the best ways for long rods and that's with the plastic hair clips from the dollar store. Just hook your jig or hooks in the hook storage eyelet and place the clip around the rod to hold your line against the rod. Seems to work great! :twocents
for longer crappie rods, I recommend a hard case and break the rods down to fit. I have a bunch of cabelas soft cases that I bought for the same reason when my parents had a lot on a lake in MN and my boat was docked, but stopped using the cabelas cases when I found two broken rod tips of some prized rods because there was no tip protection. Whatever you choose, make sure the rod tips are protected. I have a long hard case that provides a lot better protection. The other option is using rod tube, which requires you to remove reels, but wont break any rods. I have some cardboard tubes from higher end walleye rods I bought or made some by buying pvc tubes and caps from lowes. Lastly, another option is using crappie rods that allow you to order just the rod section you broke like Ed's Southern Crappie rods. I broke a couple on snags and replacing just the section I broke was a lot cheaper. Just my two cents.
I use the hook keeper not the handle for the very reason you said. If a rod doesn't have one, I'll install one. Everybody got their own method. I stole mine from Butch. The mesh rod sleeves work good too, until you get a hook stuck in one.Quote:
