Bad bulbs or ground issue. Tail light filaments are not the same as brake/turn on bulbs like 1157. I hooked my trailer up Friday to head to the lake and had zero lights. I found broken ground to trailer in main harness.

Exactly right....I learned that the hard way...spent three days working on it...then I found out separate fuses for trailer lights in another location on vehicle. Should be a black box under the hood that says MAIN LOAD CENTER....take the top of of it....panel has individual fuses for everything.Quote:

I had the same issue in the past and it was the ground wire!

Way to go! Walt & I just got our boat trailer lights working again - burnt bulb (1157). In doing some online searches, there is indication that before launching (with these type of lights), you should let the bulbs acclimate to the temp before submerging them. And always disconnect the lights when backing down. Not so much an issue with LED's, but quite a bit less costly for us cheap fishermen. :)
Prior to our attempt at diagnosing the issue, I did some online video searches. Lots of confusing dialog out there. Trailer lights are definitely no fun!
I always unhook my lights when I get in the parking lot to load my stuff before I back in the water. Saves your bulbs!

Most trailers are wired with a connector for each light, so if you can find the lights with the same connectors already installed its as simple as plugging the new ones in. I couldn't, so it took a minute or two for each one to wire the leads together.
Thanks to a low life who cut the wires and stole all my trailer lights I must now replace them. The trailer is parked in the marina trailer storage lot and only slip holders who pay the storage fee are able to get the key from the marina store to get into the lot. Since I must replace them I am going the LED route. The idiot also stole the license plate, which was two years out of date since I don't place the tag onto the plate until I need the trailer.Quote:
