Bad bulbs or ground issue. Tail light filaments are not the same as brake/turn on bulbs like 1157. I hooked my trailer up Friday to head to the lake and had zero lights. I found broken ground to trailer in main harness.
2003 F-150.
Most newer trucks have separate trailer light fuses. It's probably those. Since it's a Ford you'll have to sort through the manual to find them.
Exactly right....I learned that the hard way...spent three days working on it...then I found out separate fuses for trailer lights in another location on vehicle. Should be a black box under the hood that says MAIN LOAD CENTER....take the top of of it....panel has individual fuses for everything.
check the fuse #5 its a 20 amp fuse under the hood !!!! it should be mark as trailer tow relay !!!
No Sir. No tow package.
I had the same issue in the past and it was the ground wire!
Thanks y'all. I found the blown #5 fuse. Headed to the store for new fuse now. Thanks so much for your help. Crappie.com folks are great folks to know.
Lights are working. Thanks for your help.
Way to go! Walt & I just got our boat trailer lights working again - burnt bulb (1157). In doing some online searches, there is indication that before launching (with these type of lights), you should let the bulbs acclimate to the temp before submerging them. And always disconnect the lights when backing down. Not so much an issue with LED's, but quite a bit less costly for us cheap fishermen. :)
Prior to our attempt at diagnosing the issue, I did some online video searches. Lots of confusing dialog out there. Trailer lights are definitely no fun!
I always unhook my lights when I get in the parking lot to load my stuff before I back in the water. Saves your bulbs!
That was impressive

Do yourself a favor and just spend a day upgrading your trailer lights to LED. I kept putting it off and finally did late last year, wow what a difference. They are pretty cheap too, I think I paid $30 for the set. Best part is now I can leave them hooked up when submerging the trailer. I fish a lot of evenings after work until dark, so that added illumination under the water from the trailer lights really helps with loading the boat in the dark. Plus you don't have to worry about busting a bulb and hoping not to get a ticket on the way home. And the brightness? You won't believe the difference over standard trailer lights.
Most trailers are wired with a connector for each light, so if you can find the lights with the same connectors already installed its as simple as plugging the new ones in. I couldn't, so it took a minute or two for each one to wire the leads together.
Thanks to a low life who cut the wires and stole all my trailer lights I must now replace them. The trailer is parked in the marina trailer storage lot and only slip holders who pay the storage fee are able to get the key from the marina store to get into the lot. Since I must replace them I am going the LED route. The idiot also stole the license plate, which was two years out of date since I don't place the tag onto the plate until I need the trailer.
I just love low life thieves.:puke
I had trouble with trailer lights all the time until I changed out all the old lighting to the new LED lights
