My go to is usually a 10 ft. 12 are good for reach at times but get heavy and harder to handle in close quarters.
What Cray said. 10' - I keep a 12' also, but, like Cray said, they get heavy!
I love my bnm bgjp 8ft I just cut the rear handle down so it looks like a rear seat rod it's really light when ur holding it all day lol but if you have room 10ft is good to just get heavy like others said
10 and 12 are by far the most common. I have used both, and still use 12 on occasion. Jig poles are user preferred. What fits one person, may feel awkward to another. I have owned and used around a hundred different brands and lengths. My go to pole now is 11 feet long. I prefer one that has an extended handle for balance and comfort. At current I’m using ACC Crappie Stix. Crappie Jigging Rods – 11-Foot Green Series Pole | ACC Crappie Sticks check them out. A little pricey, but a quality rod.
Thanks everyone for the replies. I appreciate all the info.
Also next is what kinda real do y’all like. I was thinking about trying one of them inline reels kinda like a fly reel

The reel like the rod is user preferred. The one you speak of is fine. For sheer versatility, a small spinning reel is the best option. Good drag, easy to fish deep or shallow. Can be be cast, or pitched. Makes fighting larger non targeted fish easy to handle and land.
My favorite is a 11 ft. BnM Duck Commander double touch rear reel seat jig pole. I have a MR. Crappie SOLO reel on it balances out good and feels good.
I like a 5'6'' ESP ultra light rod and a Presidential reel for dock shooting and brush piles. I have two of them and they are my best rods I like. The action fighting Crappie give me goose bumps they are so much fun. Just been fishing that size rod since 1985 and just use to it. I some times use my 11 foot if I need to stay away from top of brushpiles.
There is a lot of technology out there since I started back in early 80's. Some like a stiffer rod for control and get in a boat. I am not about numbers in the boat but the enjoyment of fighting the fish. That is why I like a short ultra light with 2 or 4 pound test for single pole fishing. Even a small fish like 12 inches will make that ultralight pole bend and fight is on. It makes it more up close and personal fighting the fish. For me it is the anticipation of the bite and the fight is on.
The main thing is having confidence in yourself and experience on the water to make adjustments in what the fish want. I have seen some remarkable fishermen fishing with equipment that looks like they got in a garage sale nobody wanted yet put fish in the boat in a consistent manner.
So with all that I have said there is no magic rod and reel to catch fish just different poles to suit different fishing styles with different comfort levels. Keep asking away there are a lot of really great fishermen and great people that are willing to share what works for them on this forum. Plus as a bonus there are a couple of loose ends here that try to make this fun in a light way.
Very well said, and yes each person has there own ways to jig fish. You have to go with the style rod that you like because at the end of the trip it’s about what works best for you.
